It's been a while since I posted to the list, so I'm going to make another stab at it and see if there is anyone lurking out there who has info on or is researching the Providence, Rhode Island Stevens family. They may have originally been STRIVENS. I am especially interested in finding information on Rhodes Stevens who married Abigail Kimball probably in Providence, RI and who appears there in 1820 census,. In 1800 and 1810 he was in Tolland, Tolland Ct. We believe he was the son of a Henry Stevens/Strives in Providence. There is a birth record there for a John Stevens to Rhodes and Abigail Johnston. (That was probably in error....she was probably Abigail Kimball of Johnston). There are Kimballs very nearby. Rhodes and Abigail had quite a few kids we know of for sure...Henry Kimball Stevens, Orren Stevens, William James Monroe Stevens, John Stevens, Loranna Stevens, Nathaniel Stevens, Peleg/Pelick and probably one or two others. An 1830s land record in Michigan for Henry K. and Peleg said they were from Worsterer, MA. A bio for Peleg said his parents ran an Inn back in MA and both died there, but there is a grave for his mother , Abigail , out in MA with several of Peleg's young children. It also says that his brother John was the man who started the NY Yacht Club, but that was probably speculation on the part of the person who wrote the bio. That John Stevens, New Jersey, was from a known family that does not match up in anyway with this group. According to the obit for Henry K. Stevens in the early 1900s, the family bible which was about 250 years old at that time, was ~in the hands of the children~. Sigh...but so far, we haven't found out WHO really got it. We know that the oldest daughter of Henry and Mary Ann Stevens, was Eliza who married an O (Oliver). S. CHAMBERLAIN. In the early 1900s they moved to Pasadena to be near their son. Since she was the oldest, she may have gotten the Bible. Or, it may have gone to the youngest son, Jerome, in whose home Henry K. Stevens was living at the time of his death. We have some contact with descendants of Lorrana, Orren and Henry K Stevens' , but no one thus far knows much. We'd like to have contact with one of the descendants of any of these Stevens who might have some info on exactly where in MA the family came from or information on the family Bible. The wife of Henry K. Stevens was Mary Ann Bissell (b 1815 PA...raised in OHio). She was the sister of my gg grandfather, Pierce B. Bissell. The Henry K. Stevens family lived in Kalamazoo, Porter Co, Indiana and Joliet, Will Co, Illinois. Orren lived in Kalamazoo, Porter Co, Indiana, Rock Island Co, IL and Joliet. William James Monroe Stevens lived in Rock Island Co and Joliet area. Nathaniel lived in Ohio (daughter married a Phillips there and at least one or two more times in Illinois), Joliet, Rock Island Co and probably Scott Co, Iowa. He was apparently killed by a train in Davenport, Iowa. Lorrena married a Landerking ..lived in Michigan ...and apparently divorced and married a Rufus Parks as his second wife in Huron Co, Ohio. Their kids made their way to the Scott Co, Iowa area and several surrounding counties in Iowa and Ilinois.. Peleg Stevens lived in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Anyone out there to whom this sounds vaguely familiar? Thanks for reading this...Julie Bissell Tupker
