    3. I'm new to the list and fairly new to Stephens research (have only recently decided to tackle the Stephens "stub" on my wife's family tree). I could certainly use any help that someone might have to offer on the following Samuel Stephens. Samuel Stephens filed for a Revolutionary War Pension in Ripley County, Indiana, in 1832. In his pension application he stated he was born in Carlisle, PA in June 1758, and joined the service in Washington Co., PA, 1777-1778. He married his wife, Mary, in Washington Co., PA, 2 Aug 1779. Samuel died ca. 1834 in Ripley County, and his wife, Mary, filed a pension application from Montgomery County, Indiana, in 1838. I think this family was in Lincoln County, KY in the late 1780s, and appears later in Mercer and Garrard County, Ky, records, as these counties were created. I also think I've found the family in Fayette County, Indiana, where Samuel and Mary were listed on a deed record. I know nothing about children of Samuel and Mary, except that a daughter, Mary, supposedly married Joseph Harbour in 1799 in Garrard County, Ky. Mary, the daughter, was - according to family lore - fluent in speaking German, possibly saying something about the ethnic origins of her mother. I'm sure I'll discover further details as I continue to dig, but I certainly would appreciate any "jump-start" help, tips, hints, etc. Lou Poole, Richardson, TX
