    1. [STEPHENS] STRIVENS-STEVENS
    2. I have some Rhode Island Stevens/Stephens who before 1800 went by STRIVENS. Has anyone heard of this line before? They were in the Johnston area and we know one of them was a Rhodes Stevens who married an Abigail Kimball. (Rhodes' father may have been a Henry Stevens/Striven). Rhodes and Abigail moved around...CT...and one record indicates Worcester (sp), MA in the late 1820s They had a whole bunch of kids....Henry, Peleg, Orren, Nathanial, Lorena, John and maybe James to name a few known children. Most of these kids moved west to Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Iowa. Henry Kimball Stevens and his brother, Peleg, bought land together in about 1829 and said they were from Worcester, MA. One son, John, whose mother was listed as an Abigail Johnston (I think that's an error and should be Abigail Kimball of Johnston (RI) may have gone briefly to Trumbull Co, Coitsville, OHio, but that's a speculation at the moment. John's mother ~may~ have been an Abigail Johnston though...perhaps a first wife of Rhodes Stevens. A good portion of these kids ended up staying in the Illinois area eventually...either around Joliet, Will Co or RockIsland/Henry Co close to the Quad Cities area of Davenport, Rock Island, Moline, Bettendorf. They seemed to move back and forth between those two areas on the Eastern and Western ends of the state of Illinois. Peleg stayed in Kalamazoo the rest of his life and his mother, Abigail Kimball Stevens is buried in a family plot with several of Peleg's children just outside of Kalamazoo. I have a lot more info on these folks and have found them interesting to research. Henry Kimball Stevens married Mary Ann Bissell, the sister of my gg grandfather, Pierce B. Bissell.
