    3. My brick wall is Henry L. Stephens, my great-grandfather. A cousin and I, working independently, found evidence that he was the son of Wiliam Stephens, b. abt. 1799 in Frederick Co., VA, and himself the Great-Grandson of Peter Steffans (Stephens) b. abt 1690 in Germany. Neither of us have ever been able to prove this connection, so Henry's parents remain officially unknown to us. The information I do have, based on my grand-mother's notes in the family Bible are: Henry L. Stephens, b. May 12, 1826 in Frederick Co. VA, died June 16, 1907 in Wood Co, WV. married Mary E. Phelps, b. 11/17/1835 in Wood Co., VA, died April 22, 1916 in Wood Co., WV. Marriage date Feb. 24, 1852 in Wood Co., VA (this place may be wrong as the first two children were both born and died in Clarke Co., VA Children of Henry L and Mary E Stephens are: 1) Violet R. Stephens, b. & d. 2/1/1853 in Clarke Co, VA 2) Marion B. Stephens, b. & d. 1/16/1854 in Clarke Co., VA 3) John F. Stephens, b, 12/31/1854 in Clarke Co., VA, died 12/18/1921, place unknown 4) George M. Stephens, b. 2/20/1857 in Carol Co., MO, died 3/1/1857 in Carol Co, MO 5) Missoura Virginia Stephens, b. 3/25/1858, d. unknown, m. Abraham Van Camp, 3/25/1880 in Wood Co, WV 6) Mary E. Stephens, b. 7/23/1860 place unknown, d. unknown 7) Julia C. Stephens, b. 8/4/1861 place unknown, d. unknown 8) Maud M.
