I should mention too since I forgot it , that the John Richard Stephens family I was referring to moved to Mississippi from Laurens Co., SC. Other clues I didn't notice at time ; In household ( 1850 ) of the Robert F. Stephens 30 AL. marr: Angeline is Catharine age 60 NC? ( I wondert if this isn't Mary Catharine Ware Stephens but on rootsweb and query boards, her DOB is given as 1820 .) In Jarrett Stephens household of 1850 is a Jane Stephens age 75 <1775>born in VA. Haven't looked all these up on the 1880 census CD's yet . Thanks Phyllis plsk3649@swtexas.net
Hi List , I'm trying once again to sort out the Stephens clans looking for mine .In 1900 my grandfather , Enoch J. STEPHENS , his sister , and mother along with step-father , Thomas B. HAMILTON ,and his children have moved to Comanche Co., TExas from Chickasaw Nation Oklahoma. Also in 1900 Comanche County is Enoch Davis Stephens b. 1858 Pontotoc Co., MS. Parents are : Robert Stephens b. 1835 AL. and Rachael Stephens b. 1839 SC . I believe that Robert Stephens is connected to the John Richard Stephens family that moved to Pontotoc County MS. but not sure how . 1850/60/70/80-Pontotoc Co., MS. census source There is also a Robert F. Stephens b. abt. 1820 AL. marr: an Angeline . Louis C. Stephens b. 1820 AL. marr: a Mary Jarrett Stephens b. 1808 SC Through my grandfather's future wife , Birdie L. Easterwood , I also have many surnames connected with both Pontotoc & Lee Counties Mississippi . The Easterwood , Brandon , Reed ,Stephens , John A. Stephens s/o John Richard Stephens ,all end up eventually in Eden , Concho Co., Texas . If anyone can help me with Enoch Davis Stephens and his parents connection I'd really appreciate it or any of the names mentioned above . In 1920 Enoch D. Stephens is in callahan Co., Texas . The name ENOCH seems to also be prevailent in this Stephens line also and I have absolutely ruled as 1870/1880 Louisiana and Arkansas as the birth place of my E.A.(Enoch) Stephens. Other names associated in my family with Pontotoc & Lee Co., MS. are : Coffee McGary Rodgers Akins Brandon Reed Easterwood Ball Formby

Hi, My GGG-father Columbus Stephens was living in Lake City Craighead, Arkansas in 1900 with His daughter(my GG-mother) who was married to my GG-father Jas. W. McGee. Columbus Stephens lists his Birthplace as MISOURRI, but he was living in Arkansas by about 1877 when my GG-mother was born as she lists Arkansas as here Birthplace. A wife for Columbus is not listed in 1900, so she may have died. He was about 56 years old in 1900. I haven't found any other Stephens in Lake City or near by areas. Hoping to find someone with a Columbus McGee in there family way back. Kate McGee --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo! DSL - Now only $29.95 per month!
Hello This is Mary Cheatham Thornburg I am searching the Stephens family, who first came from VA. then I believe went into TN. and maybe into Texas and Arkansas. William and Mary Elizabeth( George) Stephens. was in the 1850 VA. census. With Mary,John,William,Robert, Thomas, Elizabeth, Wilson, My great great grandfather. Then I find Wilson Henry Stephens born in VA, 1848. Married to Mary Elizabeth Craig, being married in about 1870 in Weakley Co. TN. with several children, one being my great grand mother, Emma Gertude Stephens, born in 1884, Weakley Co. TN. She used to say her Mother and Dad lost a baby in Florida or Texas. So I have no idea just where they went, except they wound up in Ark. So if you could send me some of your Stephens names, there may be some connection on down the line somewhere. Thank you for your time. I am looking for any relatives to the above mentioned Stephens family of Hackett and Ft. Smith AR..early 1900's...Letha married Henry Griffin...Helen married George Roberson..Ezra moved to Cal..1927..the rest stayed in AR..I believe...parents to this clan...John Abraham(b1854 MS) and Maggie(Bryan) Stephens..A 1910 Sebastian Co. census could answer some questions..Thanks...Kristine
My g-grandmother had the same claim about her mother (Esther Stephens) that she was a first cousin to AHS. I haven't found any such connection yet. She was from Guilford co., NC. b. 1812, m. 1834 - near the same age as AHS. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Stark Martin" <StarkMartin@cfl.rr.com> To: <STEPHENS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 08, 2003 9:52 PM Subject: [STEPHENS] Fw: [Stephen] Descendants of Alexander HamiltonStephen's Uncles and brothers. : 2nd Querie : : : > Does anyone on the list have the brothers of ALEXANDER HAMILTON STEPHENS? : Or the descendants of his Uncles? : > : > I am looking (several years) for a cousin of AHS. I have many, many Stephens in my tree, who all lived in East Texas in the 1880's. Many descendants still live there. Don't know if any of mine happen to also be yours, but I would be glad to share my tree with you. Cathy
I have many, many Stephens in my family in Texas -- they came west to the Longview, Kilgore, & Johnson City areas in the late 1880's. Upshur, Gregg, Dallas and other counties also have many of my Stephens living there during the years you mention. Don't know if any of them are yours. Cathy
I am searching for Stephens that may have lived in East Texas in the 1880's. Two names that I know are Catherine(Cathel, Capy, Cappia), and Jewell. This could be the same person. JOYCE-- do you have a date and area(county, state) where you visited your aunt==I will check my file to see if there might be a fit. Thanks for your reply Bill Stephens
Joseph and Cathy= From the info you sent, I do not have any recognition of the dates nd places, but the names are so familiar that it drives me nuts. The more I do,the comfusder(new word) I get !! Will keep your posting in my file in case something of common interest turns up--Thanks, Bill Stephens
To William Harold Stephens: Hi Harold=== To post and / or receive messages ,including access to the Stephens archives, follow this procedure: address your E mail to : STEPHENS-L-request@rootsweb.com in the subject box, send the command: "subscribe" in the message area, just say I wish to subscibe to the Stephens mailing liist, and type in your personal E mail address. I think this is the way I did it-It should work for you-= good luck. Bill Stephens let me know
Harold==Toaccess the Stephens archives,,do the following procedure: In your search engine box, type in; STEPHENS-L archives , then click search Several options are available, and I think option # 2 will get you the "Rootsweb Stephens archives"" , then click on that. Thhe archives are messageostings and inquiries, grouped in chronological order by the year,by month. I have found them to be quite useful in turning up leads when I see a name or names that might possibly ring a bell with someone.. In Georgia, many counties have rgional and county coordinators that have done exstensive work in listing marriages, will, cemetery listings, old newpaper clippings, etc. This date is posted in the archives as well. As I said,I have gleaned a lot of information which has enabled me to start almost from ground zero. Hope this answers your question By the way, there are the same archives available on many, many surnames. Bill Stephens
Well I've gotten some done . I did trace Andrew and Rebecca Stephens of the 1870 Little River Co., AR. census , back to1850 Tipton Co., TN. He is the probably the s/o Sarah A. Stephens 1766 NC and Evidently his father died as he is not in household . Andrew and Rebecca have 3 children listed and probably a brother :The children match some of those on 1870 census . #52 Sarah A. Stevens 84 NC Susan 35 NC Andrew Stevens 23 NC Rebecca 22 TN Edward 3 Tn. Missouri M. 1 TN. Payton 6/12 Tn. Haywood 19 Tn. There is also listed on the 1850 Tipton Co., TN. census : # 733 Henry Stevens 53 NC John Stevens 51 NC Needham Stevens 49 NC also on 1880 Tipton Co., TN. #793 Lovett Stephens 55 NC Elizabeth 60 NC #105 Daniel Stevens 42 NC Ann B. 24 NC Then on 1860 Bowie Co., Tx. census : Andrew Stephens 39 NC Rebecca 33 Tn Edward 19 TN M.M. f 11 Tn. Patton 10 Tn Susan A. 8 Tn Sallie J. 7 Tn Eliza E. 5 TX W. H. 2 TX In 1880 Bowie Co., Texas , Andrew Stephens evidently died . His widow and all but one , Edward , of his children are there . Did bother in 1900 . I'm assuming all the Stevens/Stephens born NC in Tennessee are his Uncle's/ Brothers . So will have to check all them out except I could only find Needham Stephens in 1880 still in Tipton Co., TN. Basically one more down .But in case some one else looks and asks about him this will give them a lead . I did not find an LDS Ancestrial file , Rootsweb or Ancestry Family Tree on him .So hope this helps some-one . Also trying to trace a : John Anderson Stephens & Sarah Ellison ( went to Pike Co., AR.) & John Richard Stephens and sons( in Baxter Co., AR.) Ended up in Concho Co., Texas also around same time period as Enoch J. Stephens Any info helpful. Phyllis
