    2. Phyllis King
    3. Hi, This is going to be a really unusual request but maybe it will bring forth some answers to long awaited questions. After many years I have finally found my Enoch A. Stephens in 1870 Union Co., AR. with parents Duncan(Duey) Stephens and Melissa Garner and in Little River Co., AR. 1880 . But in 1880 LRC is where some more questions arise . Evidently Duncan Stephens has died and Melissa Stephens has remarried to a Robert Jean(s) and Enoch Stephens 12 is listed as a Jeanes instead of Stephens . Also listed is a William age 12 , John age 7 , and Allen age 5 all with Jeanes surname. Sources say Robert W. Jean was not previously married and appears on 1870 LRC census as single living with his father. Therefore we conclude that these 3 boys are probably also Stephens. The William age 12 does not appear with Enoch and family on 1870 census as a twin so maybe age is wrong or not a Stephens. There is also a Sales/Sails Stephens which lives next door to Melissa in 1900 that we assume as one of the Stephens children but can't verify as such . There were no second names used on census and his birth year varies on 1900-1910-1920 census . Could his name be Allen Sales Stephens ? Duncan Stephens middle initial was an S. Any help appreciated . 3. Hi , In finding the parents of Enoch Stephens I have come into different first given names for both his father and grandfather. On 1870 Union Co., AR he is called Duncan Stevens 23 <1847> AR married Melissa Garner in Union Co., AR. On marriage records he is called Daly Stephens and by some also Duey Stephens. His father , also Duncan/Dunkin Stevens 49 <1821> TN. is listed in census index as Truman Stevens . He is married to a Mahala " Smith?" <1835> MS. Two other Stevens children are listed in house hold . Robert F. Stephens 12 <1858> AR and Frances 10 < 1860> AR and three Smith children ; Thomas Smith 9, Eli 6 , and Mary 2 . Any information would be appreciated greatly. Phyllis plsk3649@swtexas.net

    3. Cecilia--thanks very much for your interest in my inquiry. However,---if Nathaniel is the father of Inman Stephens, he would have been born around 1775, since Inman,s DOB is c.1799,based on his age given on the Upson County census. This listing of Stephens marriages--do you have a copy of it,and how did you obtain such a list. I would be very interested in such a list--it might be very hepful in my search for those Stephens born prior to 1800. Looking forward to your reply. Bill Stephens ---patabill@nexet.net

    3. My thanks to Addie,CatMom1, and William H...The 1816 Jones County tax list does confirm the Inman Stephens connection in Jonnes County. I also have information that a Priscilla Stephens,a widow, was a successfulparticipant in the Jones County lottery in 1821. A Priscilla also is listed in the Upson County census,1850, in the household of Inman and Susannah Stephens..Priscilla is shown as age 75. Inman is 51,and Susannah is 49 One other bit of information: from abstracts of marriages in Jones County : Rosannah Stephens married Edward Meadows 07-14-1819,page 130. and Allie Stephens married John Barker 03-19-1820. Question: are Inman, Rosannah, and Allie brother and sister, and are the three the children of Priscilla ? I have no confirmation on the above, nor do I know if Inman had any brothers. The only thing I am certain of is that Inman and Susannah are my GG-grandparents, and that Seaborn Riley Stephens, one of their six sons,is my G-grandfather If any of you have info on the vital statistics of Nathaniel Stephens, he just might be a link--I hope !!!! 2. Harman Clark
    3. The 1850 Census for the Town of Crawford, Orange Co., NY includes: Sarah Stephens 41 F Caroline Stephens 17 F William J. Stephens 15 M Jacob H. Stephens 14 M Cornelia Stephens 7 F Granville Stephens 5 M Theodore Stephens 3 M >From records of the Reformed Dutch Church of Berea, Orange Co., NY, it appears that Caroline, William, Jacob and Cornelia were baptized in that Church on 12 September 1843, the children of George and Sarah Stephens. It would also appear, since George is not in the 1850 Census, that he MAY have died between the period just prior to the birth of Theodore and the taking of the 1850 Census. It also appears that Granville Stephens may have married Sarah L. Puff on 5 May 1868 in the Presbyterian Church at Hamptonburgh, Orange Co., NY "Smith" is the middle name of both Granville and Caroline, which could be a clue that the mother, Sarah, was a Smith. Can anyone supply anything more on this family? Who was George? Marriages of any of the other children? Migration? etc. Harman R. Clark P.O. Box 311 Sheffield, VT 05866-0311 hrclarkjr@kingcon.com
