Samuel LEACH (1870-1964) married Angelica CARPENTER (1871-1935) and they had the following children: Acel, Pete, Arch, John, Bill, Lloyd, Kate, Jenny, Harriet, Gail, Barney and Ellis. Hi Becky- just noticed that I did not answer youir particular questions. 1. My listing of Ga. Revolution war soldiers graves does not show precisely that John Stephens was fromNC-only that he served as a soldier in North Carolina. 2. other Stephens' shown is this listing are: John W Stephens,b 2/7/1764, d? enlisted in the Marlboro District in Captain Eddy Hodges Co of the SC Mounted Infantry, commanded by Col.Culp.He was later in Captain,s Taylor's Co of the SC Dragoons.I think hhe was buried in Muscogee County, but not sure. 3. Other Stephens possibilities are:(from Ga Rev.war soldiers graves) Thomas Stephens,b.1730,d.1818,buried Old Stephens family Cemetery,Goosepond District---anyone know where this is? Alexander Stephens,b.3/17/1726,d.3/15/1813 Buried :Old Stephens Burial Ground, less than 1/4 mile NE of the site o the Stephens fmily plot.It is about 200 feet souh of the Old Sandy Cross Rd,aboy 1/4 mile east of County Road #8. Taliaferro County. William Stephens,Sr. b.1757,d. after 1832. enlisted in Richmond County,ga, applied for a pension as a resident in Upson County. All the Inman Stephens boys served in either the Schley County Rifles,45th Ga. Inf.,or the Crawfordville Greys,Co.E,6th Regiment. Jasper County-I remember my Father speaking of Jasper County as being one the many counties in what he referred to as the "Stephens Belt, comprising East Central,Central, and West Central Ga.,and south of that!! Looking to hear from you all- we probably are related somehow. !! William J(Bill) Stephens
Hi Becky and Marsha- Thanks for your replys to my inquiry-a little background might help.also Hi,Bob ! 1. Inman Stephens is my gg-grandfather.He marrried Susannah Hobbs in Upson in 1825. YThey had six sons and three daughters. 2.all six sons were either killed or died of wounds, one being my g-grandfather,Seaborn Riley Stephens.,d.at Jonesboro,Ga. 9/5/1864-my grandfather,Jonathan Lafayette, was 10 at this time. 3The other boys were John B,Thomas J,Charles Inman,William M.,and Wiley Green.I habve no information as to any children, alto all were married ecept Wiley Green, the youngest 3.The girls were : Cassey Ann,Mahala, and Maranda==they narriedRobert Bridges,William Gassett, and Jasper Woodall, respectively. 4.all children were born in the period 1826-1840. 5.Susannah was born in Wake County,NC.,1801.-the family later moved to Upson County I am now making the rash assumption that the parents of Inman and Susannah Hobbs may have known each other in NC. ?? The Inman Steephens family were last reported(as a family) on the Upson census ,1850.Also,reported on the census is a female,Priscilla, age 75.'giving a dob ca.1775 I have tried to connect Priscilla to the family as being Inman's mother,no such luck yet. Research of Ga. marriages thru 1850,by counties, does notshow aNY Stephens marrying a Priscilla. That is reason for looking to either SC or NC for Inman's predecessors. The name Inman seems to be unusual, and there is a town in SC by the name of Inman. The only road I can find on my Ga. map is State road 112,going S. from Toomsboro. Possily an inquiry in the townmight yield an answer,re Mackey Cemetery. I welcome all information, and view it as possible leads to my dead end !! Thanks again, from Virginia- Bill Stephens e mail : patabill@nexet.net
I am still looking for the father and mother of Inman Stephens,b.ca1799,where i am not certain, but he and Susannah Hobbs Stephens wewre married in UpsonCounty,Ga,and both died in Taylor County.,somwtime shortly after 1850. I have not been able to find out where they are buried. Can anyone do a look up on John Stephens,b 1762,d. 1850.Served as a oldier in N C Buried: Mackey Cemetery(one grave)-2 miles S of Toomsboro,Ga1.abstracts of graves of Revolutionary Patrioyts, reported to DAR in 1924 DAR Patriot Index,p 647 Gravestone inscriptions and lineages,Wilkinson County,Ga. page 188 Roster of Rev. soldiers in Ga. page 205 roster of soldiers from NC in the American Rev,,p.399 question:was John married, If so,to whom were there any descendants I am hoping this John Stephens could be a missing link,--I am at a dead end. Thanks for any help,or pointers aNYONE CAN GIVE. William J Stephens, email : patabill@nexet.net

Hello Frank...... I've done some poking around and cannot locate your family in the 1900 & 1910 Census...... I believe that the Franklin STEPHAN's listed in the LDS 1880 Census is your William Frank STEPHENS....... I have tried various spellings of the surname STEPHENS, STEVAN, STEVANS, STEVENS, STEVEN, STEPHEN, STEPHAN, STEAPHENS, STEAVEN....... I also have the 1910 Kentucky Miracode index and have tried various given names and nothing seems to come up...... It appears that your family might have moved around alot in the Laurel, Whitley, Pulaski and Rockcastle County areas or the Census Taker didn't come up their road...... Have you been able to locate a death certificate and/or obit for William........ Since William died after 1920 there should be one available........
