Hello list. My interest is researching several Stephens/Stevens/Stephan families in the Northern Va and possibly surrounding area's of Maryland and DC from the late 1700's to the mid 1900's. I am interested in the Gile Stephens family that may have lived in Baltimore and moved into Loudoun, Va. I'm interested in the Stephens family that had several daughters that married in to the Robert King family in Fairfax and Loudoun , Va. I am interested in any family connections to Shackelfords, Kings, Myers, Claggett, Rabbitt, Burges, Burgess, Talbott, Frame, and many others. I am interested in any Thomas, William, Robert, John and James Stephens/Stevens/Stephan in Va, Maryland and DC. If you are also connected to Enos, Benjamin, Bannister or Stephen, in Loudoun, I would like to exchange information. If your Stephens were farmers, planters, or painters, road overseers, or black smiths, I would also like to hear from you. If your Stephens lived in the Goose creek or Syclin creek area's or if they lived near the families of Fulton, and Chadwell, and if you find them in your ancestors household, please contact me. If you find them listed in a bible or any loose papers you may have from these area's I would like to hear from you as well. Regards, Bjs724@msn.com Brenda J Scott
List... My wife is a direct descendant of Alexander Stephens and William David Stephens who came from Yadkin-Guilford Counties, North Carolina to the White River MM, Randolph County, Indiana. Their parents were John Stephens married Quakeress Hannah Keys and Hannah "walked behind a wagon" from Tennessee to Indiana after John died in about 1850. This family is at... (URL ends with &id=I10226) http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=bbailey_stephens& id=I0226 Evan Stephens, Sr's grandson David Stephens and wife Elizabeth Moore settled the Hopewell MM, Randolph County, Indiana and that they came from the Guilford County, North Carolina Quaker New Garden MM... We have also been able to document this family at... (URL ends with &id=I1173) http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=bbailey_stephens& id=I1173 However, I have found two other Stephens families in Randolph County, Indiana that we are attempting to document with the 1850-1930 censuses.....but have not found their early family lineages or anything about them. These are Andrew (b. 1781 OH) Stephens and James R. Stephens (b. 1812 NC or VA) who I believe is Andrew's cousin or Uncle. Andrew married Sina Carpenter and James R. married Elizabeth (b. 1810 NC) . Andrew had sons Frank, Garvin, Samuel Phillip, and Jacob Stephens. James R. had sons Jonathan M., James R., William R. (Riley?), and Andrew J. Stephens. All the family remained in Randolph County, Indiana The second family is a Moses Stephens (b. 1787 VA) who married second an Elizabeth (b. 1822 Ohio. Moses had older sons Joseph, Moses, Elijah, Robert (all born Ohio) who were apparently from Moses, Sr.'s first wife. Note Elijah married Barbara Mosser. Most of this family remained in Randolph County, Indiana. Members of all these two latter families lived in 1880 in Green and Franklin Townships, Randolph County, Indiana very close to each other and by 1920 members were in the White River Township of the same county where the Quakers settled. So I am wondering if they were all interrelated ? Appreciate any advice or help with these family group. Thanks Bill Bailey, San Antonio, Texas, 78258

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Wilbur, Eva, and Ray STEPHENS which was taken at the Huntington Studio in Bradford, Illinois. The photograph was probably taken in the early 1900's with the couple appearing to be in their early 20's with an infant. I'm not sure if Wilbur is the father or the baby. I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful old family portrait can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
My Miller line is the most elusive family I have ever traced. I have great hopes that he was a Brethren and someone on the list can lead me to my family. My Millers (George C. Miller) (1796-1882) lived in Greene Co., OH. According to Greene Co. History books, his mother was Ruth Stephens who was widowed and brought 7 children to Greene Co. (about 1809) from near Pittsburgh, PA. Through much research, I now know that Ruth's father was Benjamin Stephens of Bethel Twp, Bedford (later Fulton) Co. PA and that she married a John Miller. Anne Young wrote this summer that she was researching her Earhart family from that area and found a land deed that said John Earhart's land was adjacent to Benjamin Stephens and wanted to exchange information. I looked in my files and found a will for a George Miller (of Bethel Twp.,) that made a bequest to his stepdaughter, Mary Earhart"! This George had sons George, John and Jacob and would have lived abt 1730?-1777. My George had a brother, Jacob and a sons, John and George so the names and time frame fit. Also in the 1798 Tax list of Fulton Co. it shows that Jacob Betchtel and Samuel Bachtel were neighbors of Benjamin Stephens. Then I found the Brethren Millers of PA and MD. Brethren Michael Miller and Susannah Bechtel are a great possibility for ancestors of this George Miller. But I can't fit the older George into the Brethren Michael Miller line. I thought maybe he was a son of Elder George Miller, son of Michael and Susannah, but can find no evidence of that. Can anyone help? I would love to discuss any possibilities.

Hey guys, I'm still here and without relatives........hehe! just kiddin, gotta draw some humor from somewhere here. Harold, earlier you asked me about a Georgia connection? Well, I've been going through stacks and sorting paper files and throwing away and found my Georgia 'positive" connection but whether Stephens is included is still a mystery. This involves Wilkes as well as Troup county, Georgia. This is maybe way out there but here goes: I am descended from Richard Formby b. 1200 in beginning To move forward quite a bite The Formby (originally De Formby) family starting with Aaron Formby and Susannah Thompson began the Formby history in Georgia in the very early 1800's. By 1850 They were in Clark County Arkansas. Whether they went or came through AL>MS>LA>TX is not known but we have no proof they did or none that says they didn't for that matter. Anyway, In 1867 , the granddaughter , Medora Pinckney Formby married John T. Anderson in Clark Co., AR. John T. Anderson was also born in Georgia in Macon , Bibb County. There was a Stephens family that also was in Clark Co., AR. in 1850 with Formby and Anderson but I have as of yet been able to connect them to my Stephens. But anyway, if any of this makes sense , it's a thought. Phyllis
