Wayne: Do you have your line filled out enough to know if my line could fit with yours? My James D. Stephens/Stevens was born in KY about 1827-1830. He married in Morgan Co. MO. about 1847 to Sarah (possibly Reed). In the 1850 census for Morgan Co. there was a John M. Stevens, age 61, b. KY and Jacob B. Stevens, age 69, b. KY. I have seen many post here; but none tracing back to England. I have David Stephens b. South Cerney, Gloustershire, ENG ~1795 m. Helen Gray in Scotland Emigrated to VA in 1818. They had a son Thomas in Richmond and then emigrated to New Brunswick CAN and then to Aroostook Co. Maine. Anyone else have ancestors in Gloustershire? Seems to be a large population of STEPHENS/STEVENS there. My Stephens dead end is WILLIAM J. STEPHENS who was born about 1812 and married to Elizabeth Michael in Frederick County Maryland in 1837. He was a merchant in Harpers Ferry (West) Virginia until after the Civil War when he removed to Decatur, Illinois. He married second Elizabeth Thomas in Frederick. William J. Stephens siblings included Arnold S., John G. and probably Hiram T. Stephens. I don't have any female siblings. Children of William and first wife included:Frances Virginia, Martha A., Eugene A., Wiliam Michael, Charles H., Ellen E., Mary Catherine, Thomas Joseph, John Arnold, and Anna Louisa. several of whom died young. Children by second wife were Genevieve E. and Joseph Osburn. All were apparently good Roman Catholics. I have been unable to identify William J. Stephen's ancestry. Bill Farnsworth
