William 1857, Louise 1861, Jennie, Leone , Henry, John 1871 and George 1874. they would have migrated around 1873-1879 to the US. as you said, there is no telling how they spelled the last name. i would be happy just to know for sure what town they came from.

It is about a mile inside the French border. It's in an Area called Lorraine, that area kept changing hands between Germany and France depending on which country won the war. I have traced them back to the late 1690's in a village called Eppenbrunn in Germany . I have seen the named spelled Stephan, steven, steffan, steffin.I have a book with the vital records of each village. Eppenbrunn from 1697 to 1807 and Roppeviller from 1692 to 1902.

Surnames: Stephan Stetter Day Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/BZJBAEB/172.2 Message Board Post: Hi, Emily - My mother's family were Cleveland Stephans. I believe her grandfather (Jacob Stephan) was Mary Stephan Schleman's brother. I have found Jacob and Mary and other siblings (Adam, Anna, and Henry), plus their parents, Jacob and Eliza (Elizabeth) in the 1870 and 1880 census, but I'm stuck before and after that for the parents. I found Mary's brother Adam living with her and Henry Schleman in the 1900 census, but in 1910, Henry was living with another wife, Wilhelmina, and Mary's three children (Royden, Clara, and Laura) plus her child Howard. I found Henry Schleman's death notice in the Cleveland Necrology Files, but it didn't say anything about Mary. I couldn't find Mary's death notice. I'm sort of stuck on the Stephans at this point. I would really like to find out more about the parents, Jacob and Elizabeth, who were born in Germany, and when they came to the US. I'd be most interested to compare notes with you! Steph Jobes
