My Rudolph (or Rudolf) Stephan was born in Bavaria abt 1837 or 38. He married a Mary Frank in Chillicothe, Ohio in 1866. Mary Frank left a wonderful paper trail but Rudolph did not. Rudolph and Mary had a son named Henry Stephan (g. gramps) who married Bertha Lashell. I followed Mary all the way to Lorain, Ohio in the census records where she shows up as a widow in 1900. Does anyone know anything about Rudolph or his parents? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He married Helen that was also born in Germany, so I have to assume they met there and moved after to France, where he was born along with most the kids. the last child born in France was 1879. They are on the 1880 cencus in MI. it would be great to get the boat name and date they migrated, but that is hard to do. (Veroeffentlichungen der Archivschule Marburg..., Nr. 12) Page: 454 ** I have not found any more information on how Johann Paul Stephan and Burghardt Stephan were related. They may have been brothers, or even cousins. I plan on publishing my book on the descendants of Johann Paul Stephan in June 2008. However, if I find more information, then I will delay the publishing date. I wrote to the city of Spangenberg about any information they may have about Johann Paul Stephan. They could not find him in their records. The only mention of Spangenberg and Johann Paul Stephan is on his tombstone. The town was not given in his naturalization papers. My brother and sister-in-law are doing more research on the land purchase. Johann Paul Stephan purchased his land from Adam Hahn. Johann Paul married Elizabeth Hahn, who I surmise is the sister to Adam. I'm still searching for more records on the Hahn family. If you would like me to include a section on the descendants of Burghardt Stephan in the book, I would be glad to do so. I can email you the page that lists Burghardt's emigration from Germany. I am Burghardt's great grandson, through his son Karl (Charles). You had a Stephan family tree online back then that was very extensive, but it only went back to Burghardt and his likely brother, Johann Paul. I have not gotten back any further than that so far.....have you? What do you have on Burghardt's emigration? I know the year, from the 1900 census only. Also, John E Stephan is researching this line; you responded to his query on the STEPHAN messge board too. He was stationed in Germany last year in the Army; he was to interview someone with more info, but I don't know if he ever did so.
