Jacob was born in 1863 and arrived in America in 1868. Confusion over the years with spelling of the last name has been a problem. I've even been told that originally the name was Von Stephan and changed when family came to America. He came across with a Barbara and Martin Stephan, possibly with 4 other siblings. I have seen 3 or 4 different versions of how this line goes. Can anyone enlighten me on this. When it comes to Anton Stephan (1795-1835) it looks as thought me married twice...#1 Magdalena Bach and had the following kids: David (1791), Franz (1801), Jakob (1803), Anton (1810-1857){m. Magdalena L. Stephan (1815-1880)} and possibly Valentine (1812-1867)-some have him with 1st wife and some have him with second wife. Then he married #2 Friederika Hamo (sp?) and had Magdalena (1814-1880) {m. Anton ?} and possibly Christian (1816){m. Magdalena Greiner}, Martin (1819), Elisabeth (1822) and Maria (1826). Also, are the latter 4 really the children of another Stephan? Anton Stephan (1810-1857) married Magdalena L. Stephan (1815-1880) who supposedly is the daughter of Johannes Stephan & (Barbara Schehl?)...is this correct? I have seen a Johannes Stephan married to a Barbara Dahm in the same area but it only lists their children as Phillippina, Franziska Josepha (1805-) and Margaretha Julianna (1809). I find it odd that there are 2 Magdalena Stephans with very close b/d dates married to an Anton...are they one and the same? Is it possible that a sibling from the 1st marriage of Anton Sr. married a sibling from his 2nd marriage. I descend via the following: Mattias Stephan (1700-?)
