I sure don't know where John Steele came from, but his only son was named Robert A.(unknown what A stands for), and several grandchildren are Ross, including an Aaron Ross. John ended up in Pendleton Co., KY by 1805, where he d. 1823. I've been unable to connect John to any of the known Steele lines extant in the US/colonies at that time. We have family legend, but 200+ years later, it isn't worth a whole lot - we were told the family emigrated from Scotland 1779. John was surely b. before 1760, as his dau, my 3 g gma Mary, was b. 1777. She m. William Griffing who was apparently from Mars/Out of the mists. John's wife was Eleanor Unknown, their children were: Mary b.1777 - the eldest, m. Wm. Griffing Robert A. m. unknown, moved to Indiana with the Lightfoots before 1830 Jane m. D'Estaing Lightfoot (who was b. Culpeper Co., VA) Margaret m. William Erwin/Ervin of ?? Elizabeth m. Thomas Rush (who was b. Albermarle Co., VA) Agnes m. John Hart (possibly b in PA) Margaret m. Stubin/Stebbin Jennins of ?? all the children m. in the Pendleton Co. area in the early 1800s. Anyone/thing familiar? Again, thanks for the reply, Kathryn
