Robert, Elizabeth, and their 2 children, Matilda and William, did come over in the late 1840's during the famine and landed in Philadelphia where they are listed on the 1850 census as living in the district of Mayamensing,ward 3. This area was affectionatly refered to as the Devil's pocket. They had another son, Andrew, in Philly about 1853. They moved to Ontario about 1855 where they stayed permanently. I don't know if there were other Steele members that came over with them from Ireland. Don't know if that helps, but there you go. Tom.
