The Harley Steele below was my Uncle and a son of Jerome Steele and grandson of William "Billy" Steele. **************************************************************************** *************************** -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of W. He was born September 7, 1914, and I suspect may be the same Woodrow Steele, born Putnam County, Tennessee about 1914 to Joseph Steele and wife Rebecca Evergreen (Womack) Steele. I am in need of an obituary for Woodrow Steele. A Harley Steele was born June 14, 1923 and died April 1969 in Mississippi (location not given). This may be Harley Steele, son of Joseph and Rebecca E. Steele of Putnam County. Any help on this family would be greatly appreciated. They had another brother, Walter Steele, who was a World War Two veteran and lost a hand in fighting in Europe. Household of Joseph S. Steele (1882-1958) and Rebecca Evergreen Womack Steele (c.1891-1968) were: Martha P. Steele, born about 1908. Walter Steele, born about 1911. Woodrow Steele, born about 1914. Mandy Steele, born about 1915. Mary E. Steele, born about 1918 Harley Steele, born about 1923 Nancy B. Steele born about 1926. Possibly other children born after Nancy, after 1930, but I am not aware of any. They lived in the 8th District of Putnam County, Tennessee in 1930. Joseph Steele was the brother of James Lawson Steele, my great-grandfather, and Henry Levi Steele. Thanks! So I can disregard him. Harley seems to be a relatively rare name amongst the Steeles. I've seen it only a few times, and several times as a middle name. By the way, do your Steeles also have grey eyes? Could be related. My ancestor Andrew Steele had a son, Archibald Buchanan Steele, who settled in Amite County, Mississippi probably by 1800 or 1810, from Davidson/Sumner County Tennessee area. I am wondering if familytreeDNA is doing testing for the Steele/Steel families.. There are a lot of Harley Steeles list on the Social Security Death Index records. There were a lot of Steels in Alabama and Mississippi in the 1800's but I don't have links to all of them. I descend from a Richard Steele born abt 1800 in North Carolina and I found in North East Georgia abt 1830 for the first time.
