"Bob" Steele, 76, of Arlington, Texas, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Arlington Memorial Hospital following a long bout with leukemia. Bob was born March 22, 1931, in Joplin, Mo., to Floyd Raymond Steele Sr. and Mary Alice Cavener Steele. He was a graduate of Baxter Springs, Kan., High School and Texas Wesleyan College. After graduation from high school in 1950, he joined the Air Force serving in Big Spring, Texas, where he met and married Lillian Rowe. He worked as an accountant for the government and later operated his own accounting business. Bob was an accomplished athlete, having been an outstanding pitcher for the Baxter Springs Whiz Kids and a teammate of Hall of Fame member, Mickey Mantle. Survivors include wife, Lillian; sons, David Lee Steele and wife, Maxine, Donald Jay Steele, Jerry Bob Steele and wife, Marsha and Thomas Ray Steele and wife, Susan; daughter, Vickie Jean Cunningham and husband, Jim; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers, Floyd Raymond Steele Jr. and wife, Gerry and Donald LeRoy Steele and wife, Nancy; and sister, Norma June Kimbrough and husband, Jimmy. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 6, at Tate Springs Baptist Church with burial in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
