    3. My branch of the Steeles were from Adams Co,IN. Some other Steeles which are very distant cousins live in St. Joseph Co,IN and Porter Co,IN. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Lynn Hilty Sewell ----- Original Message ----- From: "Donna Nichols" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, March 28, 2009 7:59 AM Subject: [STEELE] DeKalb County Message: 6 Date: Fri, 27 Mar 2009 11:21:07 -0500 From: "Bill & Lynn Sewell" <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [STEELE] Indiana Steele''s To: <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; reply-type=original My grandparents were married in DeKalb Co,In, but they lived in Adams Co,IN. They were Jesse Hugh Steele and Niffie Blanche Cowan. I do not know the reason they were married in DeKalb Co. There are other Steeles who lived in St Joseph Co, and Porter Co,IN. Maybe they were also married in DeKalb Co,IN. Lynn Hilty Sewell In answer to your question, DeKalb County is just to the north of Ft. Wayne, which is Allen County. Adams County is just south of Ft. Wayne and again Ft. Wayne was their major shopping area. I lived about 30 miles from Ft. Wayne and much of our shopping, etc was done in Ft. Wayne. It was the major town for the entire area. You may be able to find a great deal of information about families from that area in the Allen County Genealogy Library in Ft. Wayne. Outside of Salt Lake City, they have one of the largest collections in North America. Here is their link: http://www.genealogycenter.info/ St. Joseph County has little influence on DeKalb and Allen Counties. It is South Bend. Don't ask me why, but my parents, from Chicago, got married in Ft. Wayne, Allen County in 1930. It is possible your Steele's may have come from the Germans, as that area is heavily German with a lot of Amish and Mennonite families. The entire area around Ft. Wayne is today, still pretty much rural, as a lot of farming is still being done there. What year were your grandparents married?
