    1. [STEELE] Mary Steele and Eli LaFever
    2. Will How are you?? Good to see you are still hunting Steeles.? Do you have documentation of Nathaniel being in White Co. in 1820?? I do?have Nathaniel Steele?listed on the 1820.?What is the earliest date that you can?place Nathaniel Steele??near Andrew?from census, or some county record????I show Nathaniel on the 1840 census in Dekalb Co. and do not have him placed in a census or other record before that.??? I know we have children we don't have names for and I'm not saying he's not Andrew's son.? However if there is no proof that Nathaniel is Andrew's son then it needs to be stated as a possible son or a probable son.? There are people who live in the same county with the same last name that are not related.? One cannot assume, that because two persons have the same last name and live near one another that they are brothers or father and son or related at all.? There are many unanswered questions about Andrew, his ancestors and his descendants.? If we began to state assumptions as?fact, no matter how strongly we believe in them, then our research becomes tainted.? If there has been new evidence uncovered since I was last researching Steele that proves Nathaniel is Andrew's son then I apologize for doubting.? Please post it.?? The original?names that researchers had of Andrew Steele's children?are - Samuel, 1782-1864 ; Archibald B.; Alexander; Andrew H.; Mary ; Nancy; John ; James.? This came from the research of Ila Steele Braun and also was published in Tennessee Records by Mrs. Acklen.? The names most likely came from Henry Steele who was the informant for much of Ila Steele Braun's research.? Henry was a grandson of John Steele and Jane Compton.? Most researchers of this family have added Alexander Steele to the list because he married a Compton girl in Wilson Co. as did John Steele in the listing above.? Alexander is in the 1820 census along with Andrew, John, and Andrew H. From the letter written by Samuel Steele to his brother Archibald B. Steele, we learn there is a sister Rebecca and a total of eleven children.? It is possible that Andrew Sr. married a second time and had children by a second wife.? From the wording of Archibald Buchanan's will it appears that his daughter Martha Buchanan Steele was deceased when the will was written.? In 1819 there is a Boaz Still??(probably the same person called Booz Stile in other?records)?living near and associated with the Andrew Steele family in White Co., TN? Another possible relative is Nathaniel Steele. When Andrew Steele was in Wilson Co. we know that there were other Steele's in the county as well, Moses and William Steele are on the 1804 Wilson co. tax list.? In Sumner Co. where he?lived?before 1800?he had Steele neighbors including James Steele who was killed by Indians and Joseph Steele who later went to Bedford Co., TN and other Steele families.? Other brothers were Andrew Steele Jr., Nathaniel G. Steele who were with Andrew Sr. in White County in 1820. Alexander married Lucy Compton in Wilson County, I think in 1807 or so, and then John married her sister, Jane Steele, in 1810. Andrew Steele Sr. was a legatee to the will of Vinson/Vincent Compton in Wilson County about 1810. I'm trying to find the documentation on that. I think this Vincent was probably the girls' father. ? Another Steele brother was Samuel Steele who lived in Davidson County. ?

    3. I responded before I seen this reply. LOL!! I'd have to look at the censuses again. I can't prove Nathaniel's exact relationship, but feel certain he is probably a son of Andrew Sr. (but could be a nephew also I suppose). I would love to find info on Andrew H. who presumably according to Samuel went to Illinois. I think perhaps Moses and Joseph are related in some fashion as well. Sistler has a notation in the "restored" 1810 Tennessee census index he put together showing that in Wilson County about that time, Andrew Steele was an heir or legatee to estate of Vincent/Vinson Compton. So this is a third connection to the Comptons and Steeles that I'm aware of in Wilson County. I personally feel Jane who married John and Lucy who married Alexander are sisters. I'd like to get hold of that Vincent/Vinson Compton estate record.   The Dorcas name is interesting. As is the Cherry surname. Cherrys were I think in both Sumner County and Wilson County. There's a Cherry in William Steele's household in DeKalb County. I'm wondering if perhaps she was Sippe's mother. Sippy could have been previously married to a McDole. Just don't know. Can't find anything definite on the McDoles. Think the lady's name was Elizabeth Cherry. Anyway, there is a Dorcas Steele in DeKalb near William later too. Joseph Steele I think married Dorcas Wilson. Not sure if there's a connection. Guess it's possible.   Haven't seen anything on Boaz. Was he in White County?   Keep in touch,   Will *************************************************************** "You should always do your duty in all things. You can do no more.
