(Or perhaps it was Register there and he changed it later to Steele. I have no proof, only what Mother had told me and I am sure that she got it from Nell, Sr. I do recall the name Mary Spaulding and seem to think I might have a copy of a picture of her. You have really started my brain going back on this side of my family. Thank you. I never heard the term "Irish Sam" though. I could not go back any farther.
