Where were your Steels prior to 1840? My line shows up in PA in mid to late 1700s, then southeastern OH from 1820-1870, then central IL in late 1800s, and finally in Wapello Co IA in early 1900s. Wondering if there may be a connection in the early 1800s. . . . I have a fair amount of info on their descendents that I will share. And yes, they settled in southern Iowa in the 1840's and there were Steele's all over the area.
