He married the above on 13 Sep 1803 in Botetourt Co., VA, fought in the War of 1812, and Elizabeth divorced him after the war in Pike County, MO for abandonment. They lived for a time in Giles County, TN, but the Steele families there do not appear to be his close relatives, in any event. There are some Steele families in the Botetourt/Wythe/Augusta County area--most are Scotch-Irish but one family is German. I can't connect him. Elizabeth was 17 when married, not known how old Robert was. Later census reports do not offer any clues about this specific Robert's whereabouts.
