    3. They were brothers. Other brothers were Andrew Steele Jr., Nathaniel G. Steele who were with Andrew Sr. in White County in 1820. Alexander married Lucy Compton in Wilson County, I think in 1807 or so, and then John married her sister, Jane Steele, in 1810. Andrew Steele Sr. was a legatee to the will of Vinson/Vincent Compton in Wilson County about 1810. I'm trying to find the documentation on that. I think this Vincent was probably the girls' father.   Another Steele brother was Samuel Steele who lived in Davidson County.   John's wife Jane Compton died early 1844, and he remarried later that year in DeKalb County to Mahala Goodman, by whom he had two daughters. John was a War of 1812 veteran, who was with Andrew Jackson at the battle of Horseshoe Bend on the Tallapoosa River in Alabama in 1814. He served in Capt. Hallum's company, 29th U.S. infantry. He applied for a pension I think in 1871, but died before it was approved. Mahala appliied for a widow's pension and it was approved I think in 1873.   I descend from John through his son William who married Sippy McDole. William's son James Steele (Feb 1850 - c. 1908) who married Mary Jane (Bozarth) Smith-Lewis in 1872. James's son, James Lawson Steele (1879 - 1919) who married Oma Green Smith May 8, 1901 DeKalb County, TN. Oma was born April 1880 and died February 10, 1933.   James lawson and Oma were my mother's maternal grandparents.   Will *************************************************************** "You should always do your duty in all things.
