Any idea where/when your line of Steele's came to Londonderry? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Donna Nichols" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 06, 2009 10:57 AM Subject: [STEELE] STEELE's of northern Ireland, Londonderry My line of Steele's is from the Londonderry area..Rev. John Steele, who came to the colonies in about 1743. He was an ordained Presbyterian minister, eventually settled in what is now Cumberland Co., Carlisle, PA. He was known as the 'fighting Parson', also, during the French and Indian Wars. He married Margaret Hutchinson, and they had about 8 children, including Capt. John Steele, Jr. who fought in the Revolution. His son, William Steele..an Episcopal priest (took years to find him and where he was, as a result) married Catherine James. There is a great deal on this John Steele..he is NOT the relative of Ninian Steele, however.
