Silas' death certificate shows his parents were John Steele of Ohio (Virginia) and Elizabeth Lair of Dayton,Ohio (Virginia) Silas Wesley Steele married February 02, 1872 to Susan Jeanette Edwards, daughter of Wellington Edwards and Sarah McFetters of Farmer City, Illinois. After living several years in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri,and Kansas. There was a Melvin A Steele that claimed on twp 27N Rg ?(unreadable) on September 27, 1893 and claimed the patent on September 18, 1900. This is believed to have been Silas' brother. Silas and Nettie had 12 children, two (Tobias and Isla)dying in early childhood.
