Sorry folks, I should have posted the disclaimer "that's all I found, but I _think_ the date would be 1790-1792." Reason I say that is the names are definitely 1790-92 type names together. However, the date I found on google for Morehead's address was 1840. So I can't say for sure. I was hoping someone could tell me. Sorry. We are swamped with a remodel project right now, but the list has been active on Kentucky & Indiana Steeles lately, and I am hoping someone has some connections, or new routes to follow. I have a _ton_ of varying early Kentucky Steele info in my database, I just don't know if any of them connect to my John Steele of Pendleton Co., KY by 1800. At that time, he had a 23 year old(est) daughter, so he had to be 40+. His wife was Elenor, and I _suspect_ a Ross. The strong clue there is traditional naming patterns. John's only son Robert (b.1780s) moved to Rush Co., IN about 1820 with a large family, but I don't know much about Robert. They were only in Pendleton County "briefly", as John d. 1823. his dau. Mary Steel signed Steele, but court documents are Steel. Mary m.1803 Wm. Griffing, who may be from Long Island Jasper Griffing. Mary was educated, & Wm Griffing was a minister. Each group of Steele's -- KY, NC, VA, and PA, and I even wonder about MA, offers some similarities. (names like John & Robert <bg>, or kin-connection names or whatever). I cannot find where my John Steele fits. Maybe my family legend is right, and they came from Scotland when the dau (my 3ggma) was 2 yrs old in 1779, but that would mean they ran a blockade, and they were still here for 20+ years before John showed up in Kentucky. It seems more likely he was already here. At the least, I'd like to be able to connect to or "eliminate" the other Steele families in KY among the earliest settlers. As I said, I have quite a bit of early KY information. Perhaps we could share info. We have been looking for years (two generations+), and just hope that this network has some help to offer... My aunt was a really good historian & genealogist, and it stumped her. She had the limitations of the times; where I have the potential of more information. I inherited some of her work, and would love to be able to give back to her, in spirit, by solving this mystery. Sorry for so wordy. It's brief or verbose right now, as I am so scattered with do it yourself construction, again my apologies. ... and Thanks Very much, Kathryn Jeanne Virtue wrote: > > Kathryn, > Yes, time frame is very important..were several John Steeles in Kentucky > history. > See History of Woodford County,Kentucky, by William E.
