How nice it is to see all the activity on this list lately. I also have a John Steele so thought I would post my info again with a few new things I have found this year. I keep hitting dead ends. John H STEELE b:3-1-1818 in Pennyslvania, d:5-8-1866. He married Mary Ann GEHR (b:10-20-1817 in Maryland, d:4-8-1871) on 10-4-1838 in Washington Co., Maryland. They had 5 children, Sarah A., David, John B., Isabella, and my grgrandfather, Denton George b:3-10-1851 in Pennsylvania. Denton married Mary Ellen BULLIN (b:3-7-1853 in Iowa, d:10-22-1936 in Missouri) on December 31, 1874, we believe in Kansas. He died 3-18-1890 possibly in Kansas. They had 5 children - my grandfather, Benjamin Franklin "Frank" b:9-17-1875 in Osceola, Clarke, Iowa. Annie Ethelyn b: 8-16-1877, d:6-17-1880 in Iowa, George Alexander b:12-29-1879, d:4-17-1880 in Iowa, Leroy Denton b: 10-31-1881 in Mankato, Jewell, Kansas, d:12-15-1955 in Blue Earth, Minnesota, Charles Morton b:2-8-1885 no other info. Mary Ellen married RO Dimmitt of Greencastle, MO after Dentons death. Frank married Edith CREASMAN 5-3-1902 in Burns, Harney, Oregon, and died 8-12-1955 in Burns, Oregon. They had 7 children - Walter Denton b: 7-2-1905 in Missouri, d: 5-23-1928 in John Day, Oregon, Ella Mae b:7-3-1908 in Burns, Oregon, d:6-18-1982 in Boise, Idaho, Reta Eloise b:11-28-1908 in Burns, Oregon, d:5-15-200 in Burns, Oregon, John Eldon b:9-29-1915 in Harney Co., Oregon d:5-24-1968 in Burns, Oregon, and 3 are still living. I found Denton and Mary Ellen on the 1880 Clarke Co. Iowa census listed under Denton STIHL so almost missed seeing the listing. I understand that is the german way to spell Steele. We were always told our line were Scotch-Irish but so far I haven't been able to prove that. I also have info on Leroy Denton and his family. No one seems to know what happened to Charles except that he seemed to come and go at his mothers. If anyone out there can help me I will be glad to share what I have. Dulca Baxter
