Has anyone posted any of the Draper mss mentioning Steel/es? I hadn't noticed any references to the Draper Papers, and wondered. There are many Steel/e references in the six-volume Calendar series, which is published by McDowell Publishers, 11129 Pleasant Ridge Rd, Utica Ky 42376 [I have no connection]. Vol. 1: Preston & Virginia Papers [3] Vol. II: Kentucky Papers [27] Vol. III: Tennessee & King's Mountain Papers [6] Vol. IV: George Rogers Clark Papers [3] Vol. V: The Thomas Sumter Papers [34] Vol. VI: The Frontier Wars Papers [5] For those who aren't familiar with the Draper mss series: go to your favorite search engine and type in Lyman C. Draper, Wisconsin Historical Society. He was an amazing historian, and his legacy is invaluable to frontier/pioneer researchers. The Calendar Series books are abstracts of films available of letters, documents, and interviews. These films are available in a couple of ways. The search engine will take you to all the right places if you're interested in pursuing this. Since I have the set, I had considered posting some of the Steele references, but the recent copyright discussion makes me hesitate. The books are a valuable resource, but the set is fairly expensive at about $50/each book. [I gave up eating out for a year+] I've found the complete set invaluable in my searches, and would encourage interested Historical Societies to do fund drives to raise the cash to buy a set for their members. It seems that a study group focusing on one particular surname [Steele-L] would have a little latitude under "fair use", but I am not an attorney & don't know the law. Kathryn
