    1. Re: [STEELE-L] John Steel, Augusta County, VA 1790
    2. The James, Joseph and William you mention in Bourbon Co. are mine, I'm sure, as my Hugh Steel had 9 children, 3 of which were these names. James (James William Steele) was my gr-grandfather, b. 1804, Bourbon Co., KY. All of Hugh's children were born between 1797 and 1816, presumably in Bourbon Co., KY, although I have no birth record as proof, just information from very early family members, passed down. James Wm. and his wife, Jane Campbell Wilson, are buried here in Seattle. Her Wilson family was from PA, however, her parents having been married in Cumberland Co. in 1782 (Nathaniel Wilson and Susan(nah) Riddle). James Wm. was getting on in years when he and his family came out to this area (Seattle) in 1864-1865.Odds are that there is a connection between all these Steel(e)s, in the same area at an early time. We just have to find it! I am beginning to see signs, too, that my Hugh Steel may have come from PA, perhaps Adams County. There is mention of a baptism there of a "Hew Steel" in Nov. 1770, 2 months after my Hugh was born somewhere, in a book found by a cousin in Iowa. The book is entitled "Adams County Church Records of the 18th Century, etc.", published by Family Line Publications of Maryland, in the notes from the diary of Rev. John Cuthbertson.
