GENERATION II WILL OF SAMUEL STEEL (Rowan County Wills Volume XXI, P.61) In the name of God Amen the third of September 1789, I, Samuel Steel of Rowan County in the State of North Carolina, being sick and weak of body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God, and calling into mind the mortality of my body and that it is appointed for men to die, do make this my last Will and Testament and principally and first of all I give and recommend my Soul into the hand of God that gave it hoping through the merits, Death and Eutercension of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to have a full and free pardon and forgiveness of all my sins and to inherit everlasting life. And, my body I commit to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors hereafter - named, nothing doubting but to receive the same again at the general resurrection by the mighty power of God, And, as touching such worldly estate with which it has pleased God to bless me with in this life, I bequeath, demise and dispose of in the following manner and form: First - It is my will and pleasure that all those just debts and duties as I do owe to any manner of person or persons whomsoever, either in right or conscience, be well and truly paid and satisfied in some convenient time after my decease by my Executors hereafter named, Item -I give and bequeath to my well beloved wife Agness my gray horse, a side saddle, a bed and furniture, two milk cows, four head of sheep, a spinning wheel, a chack reel, one hatchet, one half of the pewter, one iron pot, the half of my flax a tub, a churn, one smoothing iron, three pigs, my shirt, and to her and her heirs and assigns forever, Also, her maintenance from the profits of my plantation to be given by Samuel and William during while she continues my widow. Item - I give and bequeath to my loving son, Robert Steele, a two year old Heifer, my roan Filly, a three year old steer, one hog, and to his heirs and assigns forever. Item - I give and bequeath unto my loving son James Steel, a cow and calf, three sheep, and one of my hogs that keeps at the Stocking Weavers, and to his heirs and assigns forever. Item - I give and bequeath to my loving son Ninean Steel, one cow and calf, and my Trunks, and to his heirs and assigns forever. Item - I give, bequeath and demise to my loving son Samuel Steel, the one half of the plantation whereon I now live and my Brition horse, one cow, one plow and Tacklings, the one half of my wagon and gears, and to his heirs and assigns forever. Item - I give, and bequeath and demise unto my loving son William Steel, the other half of my plantation whereon I now live, the mare and colt that goes by his own mane, one mild cow, one plow and tackings, the other half of my wagon and gears, and my gun to him and his heirs and assigns forever. Item - I give and bequeath to my loving daughter, Elizabeth Steel, My horse called Smoker and her saddle, a bed and furniture, a flax wheel, the half of the pewter, two cows, two sheep, twelve head of geese, the half of my flax, two pigins, a small chest, one iron pot, a Dutch oven, and to her heirs and assigns forever. The crop now on the plantation, I allow for the use of the family the ensuing winter, also all my leather for the same use. Lastly, I name and ordain, constitute and appoint my beloved wife, Agnes and my beloved son Robert Steel executrix and executor of this my Last Will and Testament whereby revoking and disannulling all former and other wills, testaments, bequeaths, demises, legacies and executors by me in any manner of ways before this times named, willed, bequeathed, devised or appointed, ratifying this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament. A photostatic copy of this will was obtained from the District Court in Rowan County, North Carolina.
