    2. Do you have any information as to parents and siblings of William Steele, born 1774. Our family has been forever trying to find a family for Hugh Steel, born 1770, somewhere. All we have documented is his marriage in 1796 in Bourbon County KY to Catharine Dunn. Both are buried in Madison, Jefferson, Indiana. Thanks! Sherry Steele (Seattle)

    3. Sherry I wish I did have parents of William STEELE b. 1774 of Virginia, I've been searching forever for them. His family history write up states he was from Rockingham, Va., but everything else points to Augusta Co., Va. and I found four of his children being born in Greenbrier, Va.(ie. Magtalena "Polly" 1805, Wilhelm "William Jr." in 1807, David Henger in 1809 and my Elisabeth "Eliza" 1812).(all of these children show up in Gallia Co., Ohio) I know he was married to Elizabeth "Betsey" HANGER b. 1784 in Augusta, Va. about 1800. And William and Betsey both died and were buried in Raccoon twp., Gallia Co., Ohio in 1851 and 1852. (I have more information on the burials if you want it) I'm pretty sure, I found William in Augusta as a millwright in the census (he was building a sawmill in Gallia Co., Ohio so I assume he was a carpenter of some kind), and then I found him moving to Greenbrier with his family ( Eliza STEELE always told everyone she was born in Greenbrier). However, moving with him and living next door to him were Thomas and Samuel STEELE. William doesn't show up in Greenbrier after 1816 and shows up in Gallia Co., Ohio in 1815. Thomas doesn't show up in Greenbrier after 1817 but is in the Gallia Co., Ohio Residence and Chattels in 1818 with William. Thomas was in Green Twp in 1818 and Harrison twp in Gllia in 1822. After that I don't know where he went. Samuel appears to have stayed in Greenbrier and raised a family (Samuel Steele Jr. show up later, whether Samuel Sr. was a father or brother I don't know) One other thing, When I found William STEELE having children, it was in the "St. John's Luthern and Reformed Church Records" and his name was spelled the German way, Wilhelm Stil, Still, Stiel, and Stiell. The only other possible relative I found was "Johannes Still with a son being born "Aberham Achmidt Still". Marie Stelle was mentioned taking communion and was possibly the mother of the new son. I have checked all my information and can't find the name "Hugh STEEL" anywhere. I suspect that may have been a middle name or nickname. Can you think of anyother possible names he would have had? There was a Samuel STEELE who left a will (1808) leaving property in Kentucky, could he have decended from there? I hope all this information isn't too confusing, don't hesitate to ask questions if you don't understand. Thanks for your reply.
