    3. I have in front of me, excerpts from "Biographical Annals of Cumberland County, PA" written by the Genealogical Society in 1903. page. 43 Steele Family According to this there were two John Steele's in Carlisle, Cumberland Co. 1. Rev. John Steele (my relative), who came from County Antrim, Londonderry, Ireland, in about 1743. He was an ordained Presbyterian minister. He also was a reknown Indian fighter during the French and Indian Wars, leading a charge against the Indians. He had been near the MD line but came to Carlisle in about 1759 to head up the Presbyterian Church there. (NOTE-there is paperwork about him at the Old Presbyterian Church). He served there until 1779 at his death. In the Steele National Repository, there is an Historical Sketch of the Lower West Nottingham Presbyterian Church, talking about Rev. John Steele. He did come into New London, after being ordained in Londonderry Presbytery before 1744. He was a prominent member of the Synod, a member of the Commission and was Moderator in 1750. He was married to Margaret Hutchinson, in Ireland. He had 7 children. His son, Capt. John Steele, married Agnes Moore. They all 4 are buried in the Old Carlisle Cemetary. I also have a copy of Rev. John Steele's will; in it, the executors include Ephraim Steele, Samuel Laird, John Agnew, John Steele. The will was proved on the 12th day of February, 1780. The other John Steele was a lawyer, married Agnes... who married a John Jordan after the death of her husband JOhn Steele. Their children were William, John, and Jean. Jean married a Gersham Craft. John was born 22Aug1764 and never married. He was in the military and was a Capt. He died on Nov. 6, 1800. His brothers Joseph and William, his brother William's son John and his cousin, Capt. William Steele were named in the will. Executors of the will were his mother Agnes Jordon, Ephraim Steele, merchant, and Gersham Craft of Trenton, NJ. The Biographical Annals has a great deal on this line of Steele's, Ninian among them. There is about 6 pages worth of info on them Donna __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
