    1. [STEELE-L] Rev. John Steele-Irish Presbyterian into PA

    3. Okay, my Steele's came to the colonies from Ireland in 1743. They were definitely Presbyterian as my 5th g grandfather, Rev. John Steele, who was the immigree, was an ordained Presbyterian minister. He was also in the Colonial army. They finally settled in Carlisle, PA where he was the pastor at 2 Presbyterian churches there. He and his wife had a number of children including John II (Capt), Lydia, Jean, MacLean Steele, and some others. Don't have all my papers handy. I even have copies of their wills. My line was Rev. John, Capt John who married Agnes Moore, their daughter Amelia Steele for whom my grandmother was named. Rev. John Steele also had a plantation in Bedford Co. PA which he left to his sons. He was a renowned Indian fighter also. Several of the graves are in the Old Carlisle Cemetary and markers were installed by the DAR. 3. There were two families of Steeles from Bedford Co, Pa. The one from Rev . John Steele and my family the Descendents of George Steele and his wife Margret Dohlman. They were from German and were German Baptist. They lived near Saxton, PA . Their property is now part of Warrior's State Park. George Steele was in the militia in the Rev. War. I don't know much about her other than that she was born in Pennsylvania, possibly in Greene of Fayette Co. and married about 1816 to Lewis OGLE, a veteran of War of 1812 who enlisted in Fayette Co. PA. Lewis and Nancy owned land in Butler Co. OH, where I have found both a Joseph and a William STEELE. Lewis and Nancy were known to be in Marion Co. IN by May 1822, where he was appointed constable. Around 1827 they were in Fall Creek Twp., Hamilton Co. IN. Nancy must have died soon after 1830. I would appreciate any leads.
