I have a Lemuel Steel/Steele married to a Sarah, born around this time. Other then his children and the fact that they are in Ohio at sometime, we know nothing else about them. I am wondering if this could be them? We have never found proof of where they came from or where they died. I posted about the Steele family I found while deer hunting there this past weekend. Here is the post: My family and I went to a deer camp in Kemper County, MS near or in the community of New Hope, near Moscow Road. While there, a family member of ours told us of an old house around 200 years old, with what he thought was a grave behind it a ways. When he told me of this, I instantly wanted to see it. He brought us to this house and it was an amazing sight to see. It was beautiful, it was big, and it was falling down. It is at the very end of a log road, overgrown with trees, vines, and bushes. He took us behind the old house a ways through the woods to a concrete stone. This grave stone had grown into the base of an oak tree and there was another big square concrete thing next to it. I looked at the first stone and noticed it said "Leumel G. Steele" born 1803, and died 1865. It also said he had been in the revolutionary war in North Carolina. Next to him, the huge above ground rectangle concrete box. The top of this box had about 5 inches worth of dirt, weeds, and even ferns growning on top of it. It covered the entire top. I immediately began digging and pulling this mess off the top ! of the box and realized it was a grave. It was the grave of the wife of Leumel G. Steele. I had no water with me, but my family member did and he poured it on top of it so I could clean it off and reveal what was inscribed. It said "Sarah Steele" wife of L. G. Steele. It said she was born 1800, and died Aug. 18, 1845. I believe this to be a family grave yard and very, very old. One side of the rod iron fence still stands with help of the tree that also holds up the grave of Mr. Steele. It is AMAZING to see! I have taken pictures of the house and both graves if anyone has a link to this family they are welcome to have them. I do plan to go back to these graves to get exact directions to it. The home and graves are on private land that is leased by deer hunters through a hunting club. I couldn't wait to share this find with everyone and fellow researchers. This family is not my ancestors, BUT I felt like I'd found a gold mine. I am very certain that these 2 graves are NOT the only ones there, being as the fence surrounding these graves would have surrounded several graves. I didn't find any other markers, but that doesn't mean they aren't there, I didn't have anything to dig with to uncover any additional markers at the time. Here are the names and dates I did find: Leumel G. Steele b. 1803, d. 1865 Sarah Steele b. 1800, d. Aug. 18, 1845 This is in Kemper County of Mississippi near Moscow, within the community of New Hope. I believe this man was a Revolutionary War soldier according to his marker. (the marker also had a symbol upon it of two big "V"'s which one was right side up and the other upside down and crossed each other with the letter "C" in the middle of the two. I don't know what the symbol represents but maybe someone does. I am so happy to find this and want so very much to share it with the descendants of this "Steele" family. Thanks! Lynn, Thanks. Much appreciated. The original work on my Steel(e) line was done in the early 1970s by my uncle, now dead. I have no idea if he found Samuel and Nancy Steel in PA or if he worked backwards from Ohio census data from the 1800s. His written materials aren't as clear as I wished they were. Since I'm stuck finding any info on Samuel in PA in the late 1700s, I've been working backwards from Ohio and I do find Samuel and Nancy there. All in all, I'm stick stuck finding anything about Samuel's parents. Again, thanks for looking into your line and letting me know your findings. Lynn, In follow up: Ah, you're asking if I have my Steel(e) line posted on one of the Rootsweb family trees. Sorry to be so dense. . . . No, I do not have it posted, but will see if I can get that done before the end of 2007. Sorry for my confusion. . . . . . Not sure I fully understand the question. At any rate, the Steel(e) line I refer to starts with Samuel and Nancy Steel who were born and married in PA in the mid to late 1700s, moved to OH in the early 1800s with one or more of their children. Their son, John, and his son, also John, then moved to Tazewell County, IL in the mid to late 1800s. Adam, a son of second John, then moved to southeastern Iowa late 1800s to early 1900s. I have more detail, assuming I've addressed your question. However, I am stumped on Samuel's parentage and have been for 10 years.
