Hi, I just joined the list. I read through some of the recent archive e-mails and noticed a few e-mails from my line. My line runs Levi Andrew Jackson Steel b. 29 Oct 1883 Franklin Co, TN to his father Levi Steel b. May 1848 Jackson County, Alabama to his father Elias H. Steel b. Bet. 1810 - 1814 Wayne County, KY to his father Isaac Steel b. abt 1782 Kentucky My father recently took the DNA test through the Steele project. The first of the results have come in placing him in the R1b1c group with a DYS390 value of 23, which is an early indicator he will be R1b1c9. I read on line about the group and generally it seems to be Germanic (mostly in the Saxon-Frisian region). I was wondering if anyone else in this line had taken the test and would share their results. My understanding of the Steel's was that they were German Quakers that had immigrated to PA from Holland. This DNA test seems to fit with that information. Does anyone else have that story in their family history? Also, while reading the past archives I noticed a discussion on "Malissa Mackinaw", wife of Eli. Actually, her last name is McNew. She was from Marion County. Her brother Henry is listed two names from Isaac on 1830 census in Marion, which is probably how she met Eli. Her father George is on 1830 census and he had a daughter in the 10-14 range, which Malissa would have been 12. There are no marriage records surviving in Marion for that period, so we can't prove the marriage was there, but I do believe they were married in Marion and then moved to Franklin. Anyway, I hope to met some distant cousins and compare notes. Michaele
Have you looked in DeKalb Co, Ala ? It does connect to Jackson and there is a Isaac Steel there born ca 1795 in Ky and had wife Elizabeth who was born in Ohio. I too am researching a Isaac Steel who was a minister and lived around Logan Co, Ky and Robertson Co, Tenn. In the 1860 census says he was born ca 1790 in South Carolina and his wife is Elizabeth born ca 1803 in Virginia. I believe this Elizabeth is the daughter of Benjamin Jackson, this Isaac md Betsey Jackson in 1813 in Logan Co, Ky. Gay Nix [email protected] wrote: Hi, I just joined the list. It turns out that my uncle's DNA submission does not yet have one match at even the 12-marker level, which is the least restrictive (it goes up to 67 markers). This is unusual, and I wonder if anyone out there has submitted their DNA for determining ancestral lines? The more who do, the better the chances of getting matches. Frustrating! I just should have sent it this way. I will write a shorter message, and if you want more, just let me know.. Drury was born in Mecklenburg Co., Va. on 6 Oct. 1792 and died on 9 Apr. 1838 in Mason Co., Illinois. He maried 3 times, and Amelia Stelle was wife No. 3. They married on 30 May 1832 in Mecklenburg Co., Va. They had 2 children, Drury G. Feild, born on 10 Oct. 1835 and died 2 Sept. 1839. And, Amelia D. Feild, born on 21 Sept. 1837 and died in 1927 in Murrayville, Illinois. I wrote about an article from "The History of Menard and Mason County, Illinois", published by Baskin in 1879, on page 413 which has a little bit of information about Drury. If you you want that information, let me know. I also told you that some of my information came from Christie Annette Feild Kern of Missouri. We corresponded a while ago and I no longer have her e-mail address. Do you know about her?? I have a rather new e-mail address which is: [email protected] Sally Lee Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have some information which you might also be interested in. My grandmother, Sada Amelia Vertrees carried the Amelia from two people, including Amelia Feild. Since I posted about Rev. William Steele, I have found some really surprising information about him...including the fact that he did NOT stay in the Presbyterian ministry like his grandfather, but was an Episcopal priest and was apparently the first one in Texas, before Texas became a state. I have a copy of Amelia's death certificate..I think. And, also we have a picture of her grave..which has the Feild spelling. We have been gone a month and I haven't been on the computer during that time. Anyone looking for the above family. Isaac married Elizabeth Jackson 20 Jan 1819 in Logan Co, Ky. Isaac was a primitive baptist minister and died there in Ky. I believe he had son Robert K. Steele who is listed on the 1850 census of Logan Co, Ky. Elizabeth Jackson was the daughter of Benjamin and Nancy Jackson who lived in Logan Co, Ky and by 1836 they move to Moniteau and Morgan Counties of Mo. Gay Nix
