    1. Re: [STEELE] Martha Ann Steele
    2. I am always searching for others with ties to my "Hugh Steel" family, father of the "Hugh Steele" in your message. I have not had any information prior to this about Martha Ann Steele, although I knew she was one of the children of Hugh (Jr.). I have lots of information about Hugh (Sr.) and his wife, Catharine Dunn, and their 9 children. One of the 9 was my gr-grandfather, James William Steele. This is the branch about which I have the most information. There are many Wilson's associated with the Steel(e)'s, as well. I have 5 John Wilson's in my database, but am not yet sure if any of them would be the one from whom you descend. I am very eager to share what I have, and meet new Cousins! I am stuck at Hugh Steel and Catharine Dunn, his wife (parents of your Hugh Steele). I have solid reason to believe that he (and maybe Catharine also) were born in PA (1770), but have not found anything for solid proof. I have no fewer than 5 "Hugh Steel(e)'s" in my database, some who share the same middle name, Nathaniel, presumably after Nathaniel Wilson, father of my gr-grandmother, Jane Campbell Wilson. Jane Campbell Wilson was the wife of my gr-grandfather, James William Steele (mentioned above), who would have been the brother of your "Hugh Steele" (the one married to Sarah/Sally Ann Smith). Both Jane Campbell Wilson and James William Steele are buried here in Seattle, in Lakeview Cemetery. This branch of the Steele's was a pioneer Seattle family, arriving only 13 years after the "Founding Fathers". They were here when the county only had 1500 residents. Times have changed! Take a look at this link to the Museum of History & Industry, in Seattle (_www.seattlehistory.org_ (http://www.seattlehistory.org) ; search in the Photo Gallery for "Steele"). I have allowed them to make copies of several of my family photos. I am pleased that they keep this one online. The other one they use on their website shows a group of schoolchildren. My father (William Lester Steele, Sr.) is the tallest one in the back row, with a scowl on his face. The link below will show you a photo of Joseph William Steele, my grandfather, son of James William Steele (your Hugh Steele's brother), mentioned above. I also have photos of James William Steele and Jane Campbell Wilson, which I shared with the Museum, but they chose not to include them for some reason. _http://www.seattlehistory.org/photo_database/photo_preview.cfm?photoid=7315_ (http://www.seattlehistory.org/photo_database/photo_preview.cfm?photoid=7315) (this is the link to the photo of Joseph William Steele and his wife, Mertie Annette Miller, a family from NY). That should be enough to thoroughly confuse you by now! Please contact me and we can figure out a way to exchange info. It doesn't sound like you know anything more than I do about "Hugh Steel" (Sr.), father of "Hugh Steele" (Jr.), but maybe we can break through this brick wall somehow together. I have been helping my son-in-law research his family tree, and just recently his mother set me some very faded papers, she got after her older sister died (20 years older the her). They have to do with the family of John & Susannah (Jackson) Steele. It looks like several generations and maybe multiple marriages. Possibly going back to his parents. Some of the other names are Jesse Fielding Steele, Mahonri Moriancumer Steele,( son of John Steele & Catherine Campbell) John Steele (1768) in Ireland, John Steel, (1821) . I think they married into the Boone family. On 7-1937 I have Kenneth Boone married to Dessie Algua Steele (b. 1918), who's parents are Joel Pierce Steele and Jessie Pauline Howard. It looks like they were in Utah, and some of them missionarys, and involved in the LDS Church possibly with high ranks. Do you have any info that fits. As I said what I have is very faded copies and the person who gave them to me has no knowledge to help. If you have any info to share would greatly appreciate it. I am looking for the 1851 census that Mr. Milnie refers to that shows Catherine Morrison (Steele?) age 16 with son age one, James Larue Steele, my grandfather. I think I sent that info to you as well as Walter Steele's letter. Is there a chance you could advise me how to find that census in the Canadian records....cold and wet here in Oregon, the river is up, however the geese and ducks love it....Cousin Corale ____________________________________________________________________________________ Looking for last minute shopping deals?
