Author: wsqueaks97 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.steele/278.285.288.300/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The reason I have for replying to this post is the fact that the Ralston name intermingles with the Steele name in the Madison county census of 1860. It is recorded as Rollston. young Margaret Steel was taken into the Rollston household of Samuel and Elizabeth Rollston. Margaret's mother died in 1858 and two brothers of hers was taken in by a Shaver family on the same page as the Rollstons. It seems the Madison county Iowa Steels ,Rollston and Shaver families were kind of interdependent. Benjamin Steel ,the father of the Steel children, supposedly originated in Pennsylvania, moved and married Elizabeth Netherow in Holmes county Ohio before migrating to Iowa. The Leverich/Leverage name also is closely associated with the Steel/Steele name. Cannot find Benjamin Steel in any census for 1860. He reappears in the 1870 census. His wife died in 1858 and I assumed he was devastated by it and dropped off the earth somewhere. yours truly Ernest Wright Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Do you have Minerva Steele born about 1819? She married 1833 in Adams to Garrett Williamson. Then 1836 in Jefferson to Richard Grooms. I know the Jefferson County marriage was performed by R. D. Smith, M.M.C.G. (Methodist). According to church records held at Millsaps, he served at Coles Creek, Harriston, Fayette, and Cane Ridge. I found the will in Adams of a Robert Steele who left part of his estate to the 4 daughters (unnamed) of his brother James. Does any of that fit with your Steele line? Any guidance appreciated.
