    1. [STEELE] Need obit for Woodrow Steele, died April 1995, Frankin County, Tennessee
    2. W. D. Smith
    3. Woodrow Steele died in Franklin County, Tennessee, a resident of Belvidere, April 21, 1995. He was born September 7, 1914, and I suspect may be the same Woodrow Steele, born Putnam County, Tennessee about 1914 to Joseph Steele and wife Rebecca Evergreen (Womack) Steele. I am in need of an obituary for Woodrow Steele. A Harley Steele was born June 14, 1923 and died April 1969 in Mississippi (location not given). This may be Harley Steele, son of Joseph and Rebecca E. Steele of Putnam County. Any help on this family would be greatly appreciated. They had another brother, Walter Steele, who was a World War Two veteran and lost a hand in fighting in Europe. Household of Joseph S. Steele (1882-1958) and Rebecca Evergreen Womack Steele (c.1891-1968) were: Martha P. Steele, born about 1908. Walter Steele, born about 1911. Woodrow Steele, born about 1914. Mandy Steele, born about 1915. Mary E. Steele, born about 1918 Harley Steele, born about 1923 Nancy B. Steele born about 1926. Possibly other children born after Nancy, after 1930, but I am not aware of any. They lived in the 8th District of Putnam County, Tennessee in 1930. Joseph Steele was the brother of James Lawson Steele, my great-grandfather, and Henry Levi Steele. Thanks, Willie Smith Beech Grove, TN *************************************************************** "You should always do your duty in all things. You can do no more. Rosanna's grandmother was Anna Catharina Stuhl (wife of George DeVilbiss). Anna's father was the German immigrant Adam Stull. 3. Where did this information come from? I've always thought the Steele name was one of those assumed after the MacGregors were decreed to be exterminated and then the Clan name proscribed in 1603. These decrees were both by King James of Scotland (before he became King of England) or his council. I've never found any substantive documentation of the Steele name connection though. Alexander Drummond (MacGregor) was elected MacGregor Clan chief in 1714. Michael K. Sullivan Mother nee Steele
