I find Jackson Herrin, born 30 April 1835 died Putnam County, 27 October 1913, plus Kitty (Henley?) born December 1, 1838 died 26 March 1901, apparently buried in Dobbs Cemetery in Putnam (or White?) County. I have Jackson Herrin as enlisting 1863 in Company C, 1st TN Mtd Infantry. Now, Were these the parents of Francis M. Herrin, born 12 May 1864 died April 6, 1939 who married Mary "Barr???" If I'm looking at this correctly, Francis M. and Mary Herrin were parents of Warren Frank Herrin who married Martha Bell Steele. They're buried in Bascom Cemetery in McMinnville, Warren County, TN. I'm confused as to Jackson Herrin's parents. Was his first name, by chance, RICHARD Jackson Herrin? And were his parents William Herrin born 1811, who married Mary Angeline VICKERS???? This family seems to also tie in to Delilah Herrin who married William Steele Jr. It appears her mother was Mary Vickers. I am having difficulty keeping track with these people. William and Delia Steele are buried in Maynard Cemetery, Cherry Hill, DeKalb County, TN. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm going to see if I can locate some of old Joseph's male descendants to see if I can get them interested in taking the Steele DNA test via familytreeDNA. I don't like the way they have their results page laid out, as I cannot tell if any of our bunch has taken the test, or if so, who matches! I haven't heard back at all from the fellow who is supposed to be maintaining it. Could never find the danged link to submit my particular family tree. I am just wondering if perhaps Nathaniel G. Steele was actually a COUSIN to our Steeles in White and DeKalb Counties, Tennessee??? A JOSEPH Steele married DARCUS WILSON in Sumner County, Tennessee in 1792! This name Darcus keeps popping up.. Nathaniel G. Steele's daughter, Mary, married Green L. Clark, and there was a probable relative, John E. Steele. According to Cass Johnson, who posted in on the Steele Genforum in 2003, John bought land on behalf of Green L. Clark in Butler County, KY. John had a daughter named Darcus. There is also a Darcus Steel, age 61, in the DeKalb County, TN census living near my ggg grandfather William Steele, son of John Steele and Jane Compton Steele. Also, Nathaniel had sons named Andrew and JOSEPH Steele. My great-grandfather James Lawson Steele of DeKalb County, TN had a brother, Joseph S. Steele, who lived mostly in the 8th District of Putnam County, TN, and who married Rebecca Evergreen Womack in 1907. Butler County, KY 1850: Steel, John 30 TN Nancy 26 TN Julina 7 TN Darcus 5 KY John 3 KY Martha 2 KY It would make sense to me that these folks were closely related to Joseph Steele and Darcus Wilson of Sumner County, TN. I would love to find info on this Joseph Steele/Darcus Wilson family. Thanks, Will Smith I seem to have finally caught up to Levi Bozarth Steele's family in Hamilton County, Illinois, but cannot find any marriage / burial info on any of them. Levi seems to have died around early to mid 1880, as Susan is listed as head of household. *************************************************************** "You should always do your duty in all things. I believe I have found the family of Levi Bozarth and Susan R. (Strong) Steele from DeKalb County, Tennessee. In 1860, they're in Christian County, Kentucky as follows, page 513: Steele, L. B. age 29 S. R. age 23 G. M. 3 (m) C. E. 1/2 (f) J. L. 15 (m) M. E. 15 (f) A. J. 7 (m) In 1870, I find them in Trigg County, KY near Rockcastle, page 152 Steel, Levi B. 38 Susan 36 Andrew 16 George 10 Ch..[illegible] (f) 10 Harriett 7 Julia 4 Mary 2 Ida 2/12 In 1880, they apparently moved to the Flannigan area of Hamilton County, Illinois, and Levi apparently died earlier that same year: 92-92 Susan Steele 42 Tn Tn Tn George M. 22 Julia 15 May 12 Canary 19, ky tn tn - most likely the Ch...I couldn't read, age 10, in 1870. 93-93 John L. Steele (don't know where he was in 1870!) age 36 Jennette age 23 George L 10 Flavillon E. 7 Levi E. 3 Victoria 1 If anyone has marriage records for Hamilton County, Illinois I'd greatly appreciate a lookup for these kids, and hopefully some cemetery info. I believe Levi's father, Nathaniel G. Steele was most likely a son of Andrew Steele (c.1743 - c. 1825 White Co. TN) by a possible second wife, whom I believe was the Dorcus Steele in DeKalb County TN census records. I do NOT know where Nathaniel G. Steele and wife Elizabeth Bozarth Steele went after the 1850 Sumner County, TN census. I cannot find them anywhere! Elizabeth was the daughter of Levil Bozarth and wife Sarah Pierce, who were married 1802 in Kentucky.
