Reuben Steele was born in Scotland abt 1720 in Argylle County. His wife was a Crockett and they came to America before 1750. They came through Philadelphia and settled in the Shenandoah Valley. Their son, Robert, is the first of the line in America with positive identification and documentation. The chapter names: Samuel Steele, Edmond STeele, William Steele, David Steele, Reuben Steele, Crockett Steele, George Steele and Oury Steele. My mother's family are Steele's, beginning with George and Elizabeth Ratcliff Steele in Charles County, Maryland. The Steele family migrated to Southwestern Virginia (Tazewell County) where many still live. Some moved from VA to Eastern KY (Malone and Caney in Morgan County and Ashland. My grandfather, Stanley Steele and one of his brothers, Sterling Price Steele, moved to southern OH, around the Cincinnati area. He was born in Beverly, Adams County, IL on February 2 in either 1862 or 1865. His death certificate shows his father's name as "Hasbaring" which is a name that I cannot find anywhere. I found your post very interesting, however I do not see Jesse there. I did find in the Quincy library site a reference to a Grant Steele visiting Ida Rice (nee Steele). Jesse Grant Steele did go by the name of Grant at times. However, when I look at Ida who is daughter to Frank Steele, I don't see Jesse Grant Steele as a child in their family census. Jesse married Minnie Askew in Adams County. He eventually moved to St. Louis and later to Southeastern Missouri. I am wondering if you might have any ideas as to who Jesse's parents are. Thanks. Alvin Charles WELLS was a son of John Edgar WELLS ( born abt Jan 18, 1773 Anson Co, NC.) and his wife Rebecca VIRGIN. Alvin's grandparents were Barnaby WELLS (b. abt 1779 Richmond Co.
