In MO Marriage REcords, 1805-2002, for Jackson Co., there is a record of the marriage of Frank SMITH (of Kansas City, Jackson Co., MO) to Lottie G. RICHARDSON (of Rockford, Winnebago Co., IL) on 17 Nov 1913. Does anyone have knowledge about this couple? I am hoping that this Lottie RICHARDSON may be my great aunt, dtr of Orten G. RICHARDSON and wife, Viola STEELE. Can you help me prove / disprove this? I am happy to share / exchange info / sources with you about this family. Tamara G. Sherry, As your time permits, perhaps you could contact me directly at [email protected] Info I have on Samuel Steel is that he was born 1767, possibly in Lancaster Co., PA (not confirmed) and later moved with wife/children to Malaga Township, Monroe Co., OH, where he died and is buried. It appears, strongly, that I am directly descended from him. I am stuck on his parents, sibs, etc. Given what I read on this forum, and what I've learned about immigration patterns in the 1700s, it is possible he/his parents were from Northern Ireland, although I am unable to substatiate that. Hence the brick wall For what it may be worth, Samuel had a son, John Steel, who in turn had a son, John, who changed spelling to Steele sometime in mid 1800s in Tazewell Co, IL. All the best on your quest for Hugh! Maybe we have something in common. Sherry Steele Everett WA (near Seattle) **************Stay up-to-date on the latest news - from fashion trends to celebrity break-ups and everything in between. Donna, I have a Hugh who is my brickwall. I know nothing of his parents and/or siblings. He was born in PA in 1770, probably somewhere in the same area of PA that you describe. He may have had siblings born in Ireland, or Northern Ireland---perhaps some Scottish connections, too. An ancestor of mine made reference to "an older brother, born in Ireland" in some of her writings in the 1930's, but her reference isn't clear if she is referring to Hugh's brother, or maybe a brother of Hugh's father. The context was this "older brother" came back home [in the U.S.] after 8 years in the Revolution looking so much older, that the family didn't recognize him right off. Any idea where/when your line of Steele's came to Londonderry? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Donna Nichols" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 06, 2009 10:57 AM Subject: [STEELE] STEELE's of northern Ireland, Londonderry My line of Steele's is from the Londonderry area..Rev. John Steele, who came to the colonies in about 1743. He was an ordained Presbyterian minister, eventually settled in what is now Cumberland Co., Carlisle, PA. He was known as the 'fighting Parson', also, during the French and Indian Wars. He married Margaret Hutchinson, and they had about 8 children, including Capt. John Steele, Jr. who fought in the Revolution. His son, William Steele..an Episcopal priest (took years to find him and where he was, as a result) married Catherine James.
