Scott Steele (the father) and children Robert (24), Peggy Ann (22), Isabella (17), Martha (15) and Glover (12). Only Robert and Isabella can be identified with Scott in the 1850n US census. Robert later married a Susana Bolton in Jo Daviess and had four children (John, Ellen, Alice and Annetta) he died in 1868 or so and she remarried a John Russell. Isabella married a James White in 1852. I can't find anything on the others (although a Glover Steele of the right age and birth) is listed in Illinois in 1860). I responded before I seen this reply. LOL!! I'd have to look at the censuses again. I can't prove Nathaniel's exact relationship, but feel certain he is probably a son of Andrew Sr. (but could be a nephew also I suppose). I would love to find info on Andrew H. who presumably according to Samuel went to Illinois. I think perhaps Moses and Joseph are related in some fashion as well. Sistler has a notation in the "restored" 1810 Tennessee census index he put together showing that in Wilson County about that time, Andrew Steele was an heir or legatee to estate of Vincent/Vinson Compton. So this is a third connection to the Comptons and Steeles that I'm aware of in Wilson County. I personally feel Jane who married John and Lucy who married Alexander are sisters. I'd like to get hold of that Vincent/Vinson Compton estate record.   The Dorcas name is interesting. As is the Cherry surname. Cherrys were I think in both Sumner County and Wilson County. There's a Cherry in William Steele's household in DeKalb County. I'm wondering if perhaps she was Sippe's mother. Sippy could have been previously married to a McDole. Just don't know. Can't find anything definite on the McDoles. Think the lady's name was Elizabeth Cherry. Anyway, there is a Dorcas Steele in DeKalb near William later too. Joseph Steele I think married Dorcas Wilson. Not sure if there's a connection. Guess it's possible.   Haven't seen anything on Boaz. Nathaniel was probably there in 1830 rather than 1820. Do know he showed up in White county. Have you found anything else on the Samuel Steele letter in the 1850's regarding him saying he had more siblings than we have verification of? I'm somewhat curious about the Joseph Steele who was in Sumner County early who married Dorcas (forget her last name. Wilson?) and they then settled in Bedford County. I'm wondering if he's part of our bunch. Also, do we have any DNA participants for the Steele surname on FamilyTreeDNA?   Have nothing on a "Boaz Still". May not be ours. There is a family here in Coffee County named STILL rather than Steele, so he may be their kin.   Glad to hear from you again.  Think Samuel's letter circa 1853 or so to brother Archibald mentions having 12 siblings all together?
