H-E-L-P P-L-E-A-S-E. I am researching Thomas R. Steele. He would have been born about 1818. He was in Virginia and West Virginia before leaving his family and moving to (?) Missouri. His wife's name was Nancy and the children from their marriage were: Mary, Nancy, Elizabeth, Thomas, John, James, and Jeff. These children's births range from 1841 to 1858. He probably left the family in the late 1860's as Nancy and the children were alone in the 1870 Mason County, WV, census. Again, please, does anyone out there have any information on this family??? Thank you, Judy
--part1_76.8dea901.27ef83c9_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit My great-grandmother's name was Cora Belle Steele (from Indiana). In researching her, I have found her name spelled with and without the "e" on the end. However, on her gravestone her last name is spelled with the "e" She married Calvin Sylvester Bedwell. Their daughter, Glyna (I have also seen spelled "Glynna") was my grandmother (Glyna married Rollie Roscoe Sumner; my father, Harry Roscoe Sumner, was one of their sons). Cora Belle's parents were Samuel Steele and Ann Jane Murdock. Samuel's parents were Alexander and Maria. This is as much information as I have on my Steele side of the family. Samuel, Ann Jane Murdock, Cora Belle and her husband Calvin Sylvester Bedwell are all buried in Indiana. I have annotated their grave information with pictures on www.findagrave.com. There seem to be a couple major, unrelated branches. There are the descendents of Johannas Stahl (George Steel/ Steele) from Lambsheim, and the British Isles. I'd suggest splitting the group, but as far as Steel / Steele goes, it appears (to me) Johannas spelled it Steel, and so did Abraham, and Solomon added the final "e". Cheers. Hi there Just posting my interest in Steel families again. Mine all come from the Ford area in Northumberland, England. Richard Steel married Marjory Robison around 1842 and they had two sons George and Richard born 1884 and 1893 There were daughters Eleanor, Phillias, Margaret and Alice born around that time. Any information would be appreciated. George was a nurseryman and market gardener. Marjorie
TOO MAYN STEELES. GOOD HUNTING. THANKS, MILLY
It sounds like there is no connection to be made. I have came across the same problem myself with the Steele's. Mine are from Charleston, South Carolina. His name is John Steele married Lydia Guerri! janice
I know the frustration you must feel. I, too, am against a brick wall trying to locate the family of Lottie Steele. Keep in touch.
I am also researching Steeles,I believe from Va.Celeste (first name Collonial)Griffith(in)Steele. She was born in 1883 in Roanoke,W.VA,I believe, married Charles Steele in 1900 in either Salem,Va or Roanoke W.Va.I don't know if Salem was in W.VA or VA.Celeste is apparently the name she went by;pronounced Kalaste, with a long a.I still beleve she may have been in the Carlisle School, but a letter to Barbara Landis hasn't been answerd yet.If anyone sees this name,I would appreciate hearing from you.Thank you,Patt
Sorry. I haven't been able to find my grandmothers ancestors so I don't know which family of Steeles ....Too many Steele families. Good Luck, Milly
sorry, I can't find the Steele lineage connected to my grandmother. if I find out more and can connect anything, I'll get back to you. There are just too many Steeles out there. Milly
Hi Tracy, I saw your email the other day referring to Steele's and Nova Scotia. My only connection is that my wife has an ancestor called William George who was born in 1847 joined the British Army and was posted to Nova Scotia. He married a local girl called Annie Steele in December 1863 in Halifax. They eventually having had several children moved back to England where she died in 1890. I have been unable to find out any details of Annie's family and wonder if you have come across them? Kind regards, Richard Stimpson. (England).
