Posted on: STEELE Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/surnames/s/t/STEELE/queries/10200 Surname: Steele ------------------------- Hi to all! I'm trying to find information about my mother's family. Her father was Walter (nmn) Steele. To the best of my knowledge he was born in or lived in Richmond Indiana in his youth. He was born January 12, 1890. His father's name was Clarence. His mother's maiden name was either Shoop or Shoup. Clarence Steele died before Walter reached adulthood and his mother remarried. Walter was raised in the Quaker religion. He apparently left Indiana and did not keep in close touch with his family. Does anyone out there have any records of Walter Steele's siblings, parents, grandparents etc.? (btw, Walter gave himself the middle name of Sidney as an adult.)

~=~=~=~Forward from Will Smith <wsmith@lcs.net>~=~=~=~=~ Hi, I have updated my webpage. Finally got the Office 97 to reinstall so I could edit my webpages. Have uploaded my STEELE page, and have some additional info on my Civil War calender. http://www.lcs.net/users/wsmith/willsmith.html Will try to add my Bozarth, Fisher, Hargett, Howell, Smith, and other family data shortly. Please let me know if you hear any music on these pages. I can play CD's on my computer with no problem, but CANNOT hear any midi files on anyone's (including my own!) webpages. Anyone know what could be causing this? Thanks! Will Smith
Hi Ian To be honest I have not taken my lines much by 1900s as I did not want to including our living relatives, Sounds strange but my quest was to find our family origins and when the land of Summerside was purchased and how, the family is reported as refugees of the rising of the papists in Ireland 1641. Lots more of this on my web site. http://web.ukonline.co.uk/scotlandgenealogy/index.htm Alex ----- Original Message ----- From: iancockburn <JacquelineWatson@btinternet.com> To: <STEELE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, April 14, 2001 7:42 PM Subject: [STEELE-L] Looking for MARGRET HOGG STEELE(MAIDEN NAME) > Posted on: STEELE Queries > Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/surnames/s/t/STEELE/queries/10194 > > Surname: hogg - steele > ------------------------- > > hi alex i do not have any other names.my gran worked as a > domestic servant at 74 netherby road edinburgh ,for some > one called john c simpson.margaret gave birth to my mum > alice steele at above adress in feb 1928.although her name did not appear > on the electorol till 1/5/1929 -14/10/1930 > she gave my mum up for adoption at birth.this is all the details i really > have thankyou ian cockburn > > > ==== STEELE Mailing List ==== > GenConnect ~ Wills, have one? Posted on: STEELE Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/surnames/s/t/STEELE/queries/10198 Surname: Steele, McCarty, Williams, Powell, Gray, LeCompt, Rea, Reed ------------------------- A Steele researcher found my website helpful. She was able to find out more about her McCarty ancestors. I thought I should share it with this Steele message board. It shows the marriage of Thomas McCarty and Elizabeth Williams on 5 DEC 1777 and their children and grandchildren. Their daughter, Susannah McCarty married Stephen Steele. That information may be found at: http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/ddhamm/McCarty/ It shows 10 children of Susannah and Stephen Steele: 1. Zerelda 2. Alphonce P. (or Alphonso?), b. 4-9-1817, d. 7-8-1911 mar. 2-28-1838 Mary Ann Powell. 3. Zorodo or Zorado?, mar. John Gray 4. Zerena, mar. James LeCompt 5. Zelinda, mar. Isaac Rea 6. Alvorado P. 1825-1886, mar. Rebecca Reed 7. Alvena 8. Alvin 9. Thomas Alexis 10. Angeline I'm sorry I don't have more of their descendents listed. And I really don't know much else right now about the Steele family. Hope you find some of this helpful!

I though this may help someone with their research. Susan Ellis Island Records Go Online -- More Fuel for the Genealogy Boom CINCINNATI, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- On April 17, the Ellis Island records of the ancestors of more than 100 million Americans will become widely available for the first time. Until now, the immigration documents of the 17 million people who entered America through the famed ``island of hope, island of tears'' have been accessible only on microfilm. But Tuesday's opening of the American Family Immigration History Center on Ellis Island -- and its companion Web site at www.ellisislandrecords.org -- puts the actual ship passenger logs showing these immigrant ancestors at researchers' fingertips.

Posted on: STEELE Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/s/t/STEELE/queries/10187 Surname: Reeves, Steele, Robertson, Thompson ------------------------- George Reeves b. Jan 12, 1767 in N.C. married first to Miss. Polly Steele. This couple had one child, a son, on March 9, 1794 in Pendleton Dist. S.C. They named their son, William Steele or Steel Reeves. I have a good deal of information on his descendants as well as his parents. Is anyone able to place Polly in the Steele family? Polly is likely a nickname but it is what we have. In studying deeds in Pendleton Dist. I see references to a William Steele. In an individual record on Family Search I found a William L. Steele married to Margaret Watson Guyton. His birth was 1796 in Pendleton District, S.C. Perhaps Polly was his cousin? Learning more about the Reeves family found in Pendleton Dist in the late 1700's is enormously important to me. I have documented my line up to a Thompson Reeves who was born in 1799 apparently in Pendleton Dist. I have been led to believe he may have parents named John and Sarah. Thank you.
