    3. I have seen Valentine Steele on line on several occasions. Perhaps check the STEELE-L@rootsweb.com. I am sure that his name has turned up with the Virginia families. This was two or three years ago that I saw it though. I will try to access some of my old files to see if I still have some the information and will get back to you. 3. Do you know if, by chance, the Buchanan family of Chester County, PA lived in the vicinity of your Carlisle County, PA Steele's??? Is Carlisle County anywhere near Chester County? My Buchanans came from Pennsylvania and settled in Augusta County, Virginia. John (or was it James???) Buchanan, father of Archibald Buchanan, died I think in 1765 in Augusta County, VA. Archibald's daughter, Martha, married Andrew Steele probably in Virginia about 1780-1782. 3. Hi All, Thought it was about time I posted my details again so new members etc. are aware. My family interest is in a William George was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1843, although his parents came from near London. Eventually he joined the British Army (Royal Engineers). He was posted to Halifax, Nova Scotia on 30 August 1862. According to his army records, he married a local girl, Ann (Annie) Steele "At Halifax on 15th December 1863 (without leave) - Recognized 5 August 1867". I know that she was born in Nova Scotia in about 1847, place of birth and place of marriage unknown. There were several children born in Nova Scotia:- Joseph William George born about 1864. Charles Allan George born about 1868. William Peter George born about 1870. John George born about 1872. Robert Harrington George born about 1874. William and Annie returned to England 18 May 1876, where several more children were born. Annie eventually died in England in 1890 of cholera. I have had a lot of help from people in Nova Scotia but have been unable to trace the family history of Annie and her family. I would be very grateful if anybody was able to help me with any further details etc. Kindest regards. Richard Stimpson. 9 Mimosa Close, Polegate, East Sussex. BN26 6PL. UK. Tel. No. 01323 482487.

    2. Sara Martha Steele
    3. Marie Steele Inherst of Beallsville, Ohio has contacted me to see if I were connected to her line of Steeles that she has traced back to Samuel and Selah Short Steele. Unfortunately, my Steeles are from Wisconsin and Canada. However, her information may help someone else. If so, contact me and I will give you her surface mail address. She does not currently have a computer. Samuel and Selah Steele had 11 children: John B. 1820; Elizabeth, 1822; Stephen 1823; Sarah 1824, William 1825-1893, Alfred, Samuel, Richard, Ellen, Amos, and Jesse. If I read her letter correctly, Marie is the great grand daughter of Alfred Steele through their son Raymond (Coates Station, MOnroe, Co. Ohio) and his son Roy. She believes that Samuel and Selah may have come from PA. Sara

    1. [STEELE-L] Quaker Records for Steele
    2. Donna Nichols
    3. The Quakers have excellent records that are readily available, many on line. Also many libraries have the Quaker records available in the reference sections. I don't happen to have the sites bookmarked, but have used the Quaker records extensively back to Europe and they are very easy to follow. My husband has long Quaker lines and we were even able to find out when his g grandfather was banished from the Quaker faith for marrying outside the faith, plus several other reasons. Documentation is all there in the records of the Monthly Meetings. Indiana did have a fairly strong Quaker population also; you should be able to find out what meeting Walter's family attended.
