    3. Can someone help a "lazy" family researcher? My GGgrandmother was Margaret Dovey Steele b 1831 m. 1852 to John Spangler d. 1911. Her father was John Sloan Steele b. 1785 m 1812 d. 1855. The info I have (from another) is that John Sloan moved from N. C. to Knox Co. Tn with his father at an early age. In later years John Sloan Steele moved to Owen Co., In Thanks for any assistance. I don't mean to be a pain, but someone did this to my mother who does a ton of research and sells the books that she has pain stakenly indexed. She lost a lot of money because of someone doing this to her and while it is wonderful to share information that you have found and the sources of it, you should not be giving information requests over the Internet. 1. Re: [STEELE-L] Ninian & other misc. Steeles
    2. Ninian Steele of Chester County who migrated from Ireland passed on November 22, 1745. Ninian married Mary Futhey Who's father was Robert Futhey, Sr. Mary Futhey and her sister (Ann I believe her name was) Migrated to Chester County with their brother Robert Futhey, Jr. Ann Married married Samuel Steele in Chester County, PA. Samuel and Ann had a son named Ninian Steele. (This will get interesting now.... LOL) Mary was born in Antrim Co. Ireland. abt 1700 Ninian and Mary were married about 1725 When Ninian Steel passed his will read the children as Robert Steele (Who moved to Rowan County, NC, AKA Robert the School Master) Married Jane ??? Children: Henry Robert James Samuel b: 1775 d: 08-07-1782 Martha Steele Samuel Steele (Married Leah Elliot) Chrisana or Susana (Spelling was hard to read) Ninian Steele (AKA Ninian "Third Creek" Steele named for where he lived in Rowan County NC and not to confuse him with Ninian "Fourth Creek" Steele) Ninian Steele who is the son of Ninian Steele Married Agnes Graham March 31, 1768 in Rowan County, NC and was a revolutionary war soldier of which he was believed to of been KIA (I know of the battle but can't remember it off of the top of my head) DOD June 20, 1780. Agnes after Ninian's death was given receipts from the government for the guns that Ninian had and she gave to the militia. She applied for a pension because of his service but I have not found where she received a pension. This Ninian and 4th creek Ninian are often confused or it is though that they are all the same person. Becareful in this area as they are not. William Steele Unborn Child that my wife is now carrying. I have never gotten to Chester County to get Mary's will or anything that may have been filed after Ninian's death to establish who the child that she was carrying is. Ninian Steele of Fourth Creek is thought to be a son of Samuel Steele from Chester County. He was also referred to as Captain Ninian Steele. This Ninian lived through the war and died in 1813. I believe that this Ninian is the son of Samuel Steele from Chester County, PA (If I am wrong someone please correct me!) And would thereby be a cousin to Robert and 3rd Creek Ninian. To make things even more confusing...... Ninian "3rd Creek" Steele's children: Ninian Steele " b: 1772, m: 07-29-1793 Jane Locke d: before 1805 Agnes Steele b: 1774 M: Hugh Dobbins Mary Steele Richard Steele, Sr. b: 1778 Rowan Co. M: Margaret Graham 10/10/1805 Williamson TN d: 06-21-1860 John Steele D: may 1838 M: Sarah Hall The Steele family was an out going family both in Chester County and in NC. You will find records of where they served Jury duty in NC. And in Chester County where Samuel ran an add in the papers saying that he had someone's bull. Good luck, I hope this cleared something up for all of ya! Missi

    2. The name John Steele is indeed a common one in our Steele family histories. Our 'Johns' were in OH 1774-1870, and in White Co. IN 1838-1870. They are indeed hard to track down. One of my John Steeles had a son samed Samuel Lawson Steele who is the father of my Grandmother, Hattie Steele. One of many brothers, Samuel somehow ended up in KS. While in KS, daughter Hattie married into the Witcher family. But she and her Witcher husband eventually returned to IN because of work and her Steele roots. njdempster@aol.com
