I am looking for more info on Mary Steele who married Thomas Barnett on 3/27/1870. She was the daughter of Thomas and Nancy Steele from Monroe county, WV. Thanks! Brenda Barnett
I thought some of you might have use for this partial marriage list. It is taken from Chalkey's Chronicles and details some pre 1800 marriages. I'm sure there is more information on Steel/Steele families in the chronicles, but right now I'm researching another surname. You can find a link to the chronicles in the USGenWeb Archives site for Augusta County, Virginia. Augusta County was the site of a large Scottish-Irish settlement. I was researching another of my family lines and came across a Samuel L Steel, born circa 1810 in Tennessee. He is listed on the 1850 Comanche County, Texas Census. It's hard to read the .gif images but from what I can tell he listed his occupation as Mechanic and was married to Lucinda (J?)b. circa 1812. He has four children listed, three girls and a boy ranging in age from 7-16. The oldest three were born in Tenn. and the youngest in Arkansas. Hope this will help someone out there.
Our family's Marshall Steele was born in 1816 in KY (not proven). He married Mary Fout. He died in Appanoose Co. Iowa in 1901, and is buried at Jerome, Iowa. Mary's sister, Rachel, married Marshall's brother, Thomas. Sherry Steele (Seattle)
Lynn, I will let you know whenever I can use my Family Tree Maker Program again. I am mad at those people for making technical support such a difficult thing on weekends, when I would think MOST people are trying to use it.

I am not aware of a JACOB Steel(e), either. That's a new one by me. We do have Marshall used as a surname or middle name, however, and have absolutely no idea as to where it came from, or why. Thanks for thinking of me in relation to this, however. Sherry Steele (Seattle)
I am looking for info. on the ancestry of ADAM STEEL(E) who married MARY ROSS. I have it that he was born in either BETHLEHEM, PA, or, in NJ. They had a daughter, CHRISTIANA/CHRISTINA b. Abt. 1810 in Luzerne County, PA. She married DANIEL FREDERICK and they lived in Hanover Twp, Luzerne County throughout their lives, dying after 1893. All I have on ADAM STEEL(E), is that he was father of CHRISTIANA (STEELE) FREDERICK, and, that he married MARY ROSS. Any further would be more than just helpful. Thank you. Karin

I got this from another list. I sure hope it's true! Thought it is worth passing on. More than 20,000 community newspapers, some long out of print, have recorded American life since the 17th century and two unique organizations have set the common goal of providing Internet access to this documentation of American heritage. The National Newspaper Association (NNA) and Cold North Wind Corporation signed a letter of intent today to create America's Chronicles(SM), an online search engine that accesses the digital archives of America's community newspapers, beginning with the archives of the 3600 NNA member newspapers. The project could eventually result in 500,000,000 pages of original, historical content dating back to the 1600s and will be available online at http://www.americaschronicles.com. The site will be launched at the NNA's 116th Annual Convention and Trade Show in Milwaukee, September 12-15, with access to the first of many digital archives.
Hi Shirley, I am looking for an Isabella Steele that married a Robert Robertson in Scotland in the mid 1800's. They had a John Steele Robertson on Sept 11, 1876 near Glascow Scotland. Taylor and Collonial Steele are rare, I've never seen Collonial Griffith or Steele in print. They were born in in Sweet Springs, VA and Ronceforte, VA respectively, 1880 and 1883. Their families know this,I've never seen it or any other record of their family at or before this time. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thank you, Patt
Francis Steele Sr. (wife unknown) was living in Amherst Co. Va. during the Rev. War in the part that was formerly Albermarle. From the records in Bed- ford, it appears that Francis Sr. had at least four children: (1). Francis Jr. who was born 11 March 1759 in Alabemarle Co., Va. m. 1 July 1784 in Bedford Co. Va. Elizabeth Neal (O'Neal) daughter of Daniel and Mary (Dodson) Neal (O'Neal). He died in Stokes Co. (N.C.) 18 Sep 1840. (2) George, born ca 1761 Amherst Co., Va. m. 21 Dec 1789 Sally Gilliam and possibly remained in Virginia. (3) Mary, b. ca 1763 Amherst Co., Va. m. 27 April 1789 Jacob Neal (O'Neal) (4) Andrew, b. ca 1765 in Amherst Co., Va. m. 8 Feb 1794 Jane Asbury in Bedford Co. Va. Sometime before 1800 Jane and Andrew Steele followed her parents. (Thomas & Martha (Jenning) Asbury, to Mercer Co. KY. In Mercer Co. Tax Records I found a note that Andrew Steele had moved to Miami. Went to Miami KY. Apparently Jane and Andrew never got there. So where did they go? Other than Thomas J. who were their children? Was Andrew Steele the man mentioned in 13 Regt (Gray's) Kentucky Militia, ? The only child of Andrew and Jane (Asbury) Steele that I know of, according to the census was born in Ky. in 1800.. He was living in Breckenridge Co. KY in 1838 when he moved to DuBois, Indiana. At that time his children were:(All born in Breckenridge Co. KY) Nancy Jane, b. 1832 Mary Elizabeth b. 1834 James Taylor b. 1838 I don't know who his first wife, (mother of above children) was. My basis for the Asbury/Steele connection is that the above Nancy Jane Steele told my father, her grandson, that he must be very proud of his Asbury lineage as her grandmother was Jane Asbury. Can any of you help me fill in the gaps? Sue K.
