New info ?? From Carol Dawn Re: [STEELE] Marada Frank Steele Janet, I think that I have gotten with you before. I am very interested in seeing what we can share about the Steele's. I am in Longview TX. The following is what I have written, but have a lot more. I do not have anyone working with me on the Steele line. It is terrible that I did not follow up on some things that Bennie Best McDowell gave me. I did talk to several people in think it was Greenback TN. I am slow but sure on getting busy on this line. Kids, grandbabies, the usual plus my health, but I would love to work with you and see how far we can go. There is a Steele website that has a lot but some of it is not what I know so need to research. [email protected] Janet and Cheryl, I, too, am interested in any info you find/have. First their is a will abstract for William Steele, father of William and Aaron: William Steele. Wife: Esther Steele. Sons: Aaron Steele, Joseph Steele, James Steele, William Steele. Daughters: Polly L. Steele, Elizabeth Steele, Betty Steele. "To my son William Steele who ran away and is as I suppose at sea." Land: " mill on Twenty-Three mile Creek." "Land near the mouth of Eighteen Mile Creek. Including the old mill seat." "Land lying on both sides of Eighteen Mile Creek and adjoining the Courthouse land." Exors: friends James C. Griffin, Benjamin Dickson, son Joseph L. Steele. Wits: Benjamin Dickson, David L. Boyd, Job Rainwater. Date: 26 January 1818. Probate 6 August 1821.Bk. A p. 258, Roll 676. Anderson Co, SC. (The will in its entirety can be found at the SC Dept. of Archives and History website.) and then there is a Sheriff's Sale notice from the Pendleton Messenger: "Pendlton Messenger Newspaer June 20, 1827 G. E. W. Foster, Sheriff, announces sale according to directions from the Court of Common Pleas, Writ of Partition. Esther Steele and James Steele vs. William Steele, et al. Will be sold on the first Monday in July that valuable farm and land lying about five miles from Pendleton on the direct road to Abbeville C. H., being the late residence of Maj. Joseph L. Steele, deceased; 1543 acres; bounded by Archibald McElroy, Col. Joseph Grisham, V. Vandiver, Maj. Moody Burt, S. Pope, Esq. et. al. Large and well-finished dwelling house with all necessary outbuildings. The land is level and good farming land, and is perhaps more abundantly watered than any tract in the district, including those splendid fountains called the "Sandy Springs," a well known watering place, and which are, perhaps, not surpassed or equaled in the State for fineness and abundance of water and around which are beautiful situations for improvements." Hope this helps. Joanne B. Revell Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
