I received a pretty complete run down on the Steeles of Steele, MO from a descendent of the namesake of Steele, MO. Unfortunately, there is no "Black" surname in her story. It was worth a shot, though, as you said, Inez is unusual.

I don't know if I can be ao f help or not, but my name is Laurie and I am researching my mom's family genealogy. You have written a Donno Inez Steele down and I wondered if we could be related somehow, as I have a Inez Mary Black in my Mom's side of the family, who had a Ida Mae, which is my mom's cousin. "Inez" was such an unusual name to me, I wanted to write and see if we could be related somehow. Inez Black, also had a son, Paul, who died in WW II. Do either of those names ring any bells? Please let me know, as I am looking for any info. whereever I can find it. Thanks for your time! :)

Claudia, Hello! My name is Laurie and I am researching ,y Mom's family's genealogy. I noticed a few posts up at the mailing list: STEELE-L@rootsweb.com, that were from my MOm's cousin, Patt Steele. I think that means we may be related somehow. I got a copy of the message that was posted by you, asking Patt about her relatives from Greenbriar Co, W.Va. I have a few names, like: Mary Aviline Steele(Molly)---supposed to be born in 1850 and died at: 64 in Hoke. Looks like she may havebeen the mother of Taylor Steele who married Mary Merrith; Taylor's middle name from what I have been told, was maybe "William" and since there were many "william"'s in the family, so took "taylor" as his first name who were the parents of Charles Bernard Steele(My Great-grandpa). Also, his son, Charles W. Steele(Sr.) was born: Jan. 3rd, 1903 and died: march 26th, 1977, and he was my Mom's Dad's father. He married an Elsie Marie Rhodes--born: Nov. 14th, 1902 and died: march 26th, 1986. Do any of those names ring any bells? I would appreciate hearing from you, because we may be related. Thanks for your time. Laurie :) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email alerts & NEW webcam video instant messaging with Yahoo! Messenger http://im.yahoo.com
Sherry I wish I did have parents of William STEELE b. 1774 of Virginia, I've been searching forever for them. His family history write up states he was from Rockingham, Va., but everything else points to Augusta Co., Va. and I found four of his children being born in Greenbrier, Va.(ie. Magtalena "Polly" 1805, Wilhelm "William Jr." in 1807, David Henger in 1809 and my Elisabeth "Eliza" 1812).(all of these children show up in Gallia Co., Ohio) I know he was married to Elizabeth "Betsey" HANGER b. 1784 in Augusta, Va. about 1800. And William and Betsey both died and were buried in Raccoon twp., Gallia Co., Ohio in 1851 and 1852. (I have more information on the burials if you want it) I'm pretty sure, I found William in Augusta as a millwright in the census (he was building a sawmill in Gallia Co., Ohio so I assume he was a carpenter of some kind), and then I found him moving to Greenbrier with his family ( Eliza STEELE always told everyone she was born in Greenbrier). However, moving with him and living next door to him were Thomas and Samuel STEELE. William doesn't show up in Greenbrier after 1816 and shows up in Gallia Co., Ohio in 1815. Thomas doesn't show up in Greenbrier after 1817 but is in the Gallia Co., Ohio Residence and Chattels in 1818 with William. Thomas was in Green Twp in 1818 and Harrison twp in Gllia in 1822. After that I don't know where he went. Samuel appears to have stayed in Greenbrier and raised a family (Samuel Steele Jr. show up later, whether Samuel Sr. was a father or brother I don't know) One other thing, When I found William STEELE having children, it was in the "St. John's Luthern and Reformed Church Records" and his name was spelled the German way, Wilhelm Stil, Still, Stiel, and Stiell. The only other possible relative I found was "Johannes Still with a son being born "Aberham Achmidt Still". Marie Stelle was mentioned taking communion and was possibly the mother of the new son. I have checked all my information and can't find the name "Hugh STEEL" anywhere. I suspect that may have been a middle name or nickname. Can you think of anyother possible names he would have had? There was a Samuel STEELE who left a will (1808) leaving property in Kentucky, could he have decended from there? I hope all this information isn't too confusing, don't hesitate to ask questions if you don't understand. Thanks for your reply. Do you have any information as to parents and siblings of William Steele, born 1774. Our family has been forever trying to find a family for Hugh Steel, born 1770, somewhere. All we have documented is his marriage in 1796 in Bourbon County KY to Catharine Dunn. Both are buried in Madison, Jefferson, Indiana. Thanks! Sherry Steele (Seattle)
I just received an e-mai from Claudia stating that William was in Ohio.It sounds like we may have the same family if Mary is in yours.I believe she may have been the mother of Taylor, maybe William as a first or second name,Steele who married Mary Merrith.I hope to hear from you soon with your lists of persons.I'm getting as much as I can of the riffiths together.I'm writing to so many all at once that with workig it's hard to keep up.I think I told you that I have a person who has a Bible and will try hard to get with her.I'm sure it will have many Griffiths in it.Hope to hear from you soon.Patt Thanks for the info on mary. http://community.webtv.net/coolPatt/Yesterdaysflowers
Claudia,I am so happy to hear from you.I have just found a Mary Aviline Steele(Molly) supposedly b.1850,Greenbriar County.died at age 64 in a place called Hoke.May be mother of Taylor Steele,I think his middle or first name was William and he went by Taylor because of another William in the family.Taylor married Mary Merrit, they had Charles Bernard ,1880.Family lore has him moving a lot.Charles married Collonial Celest Griffith.I still have to verify this information, but I have also found a family Bible, all I have to do is find a time when we can get together so I can see it. You won't get anything yet with my web page.I really should remove it until I've verified a little more.I'll check back and see what you've already told me,but it won't bother me if you can tell me again.Hope to hear from you soon.Patt http://community.webtv.net/coolPatt/Yesterdaysflowers
Please add me to your list. I am following the Steele family and have a Reuben as my ggfather, from Wythe Co. , Va. Thank you.
Patt Please forgive me, I've been out of town so much this past month, I can't remember who I've talked to and what I said. I tried to find my old messages but couldn't find any that pertained. So please refresh my memory on what I already told you so I don't repeat myself. Thanks. I tried using your address you had listed: http://community.webtv.net/coolPatt/Yesterdaysflowers but I couldn't find anything "clickable" on that page, so I'm just using a reply to your email. I've been working on William STEELE b. 1774 for so long, and I have collected some information on the Augusta Co., Va. STEELE's and a few (ie. Samuel, Thomas and William) who moved to Greenbrier Co., Va. then to Gallia Co., Ohio. It's been interesting to follow. Who do you have in Greenbrier? Thanks for your reply.
