My name is Laurie and I am researching my MOm's side of the family, who were Steeles. The name "william" sounds familiar, but all the info. I have, only goes back to a certain point, so i am not sure where he might "fit in" to the family tree. I have a question, though...your name is Charles Steel(Jr.)....any chance that the names Charles Bernard Steele marrried to Collonial Clesslie (Griffith) Steele(great-great-grandparents. I think they were!), Charles William Steele (Sr.) married to Elsie Marie (Rhodes) Steele(Great-grandparents), or, Charles William Steele(Jr.) married to Mona Lou (Folmar) Steele(My Grandparents) sound familiar to you? I haven't heard of too many Charles Steeles, so I just wondered if we were somehow related? let me know, as I checking out any leads I can find on my Mom's family and would appreciate any help you can give. Thank you! :) > > Laurie > > > ==== STEELE Mailing List ==== > Boards > Surnames > Steele - post a topic below, defaults to the list! > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.steele > > ============================== > Visit Ancestry.com for a FREE 14-Day Trial and enjoy access to the #1 > Source for Family History Online. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/YdJBAIB/1909.1.1 Message Board Post: I received your message. Thank you for replying. I don't have a lot of information on my gramma's family except that her father and grandfather held high positions in Hagerstown political society. Her brother's name was Dwight (but they called him Sonny). I think, buy am not sure, that he was a Jr. making their father, Dwight Steele Sr. My gramma used her maiden name as her middle name...Dorothy Steele Hovey. (Hovey was her married name). I don't know very much more. I did not know her mother's name and she was very quiet about her family as there had been some "scandal" that required she move away from that area. I know that there is a family burial plot in Hagerstown and that may have more clues. I have not checked that angle out yet. I don't know if any of this will help you, but I hope it does and maybe we will be able to help each other. I do know that my gramma often mentioned she was Scott-Irish.
