Hi, I am looking for an Marie F. Steele, who married a "Stauffer" and lived in Washington, D.C. and later moved to Philadelphia, PA. I believe she had a daugher, Helen and a couple of sons. Would have been living in Philadelphia in the 1930's. Marie had a sister, Elsie (Steele) Roche, and two brothers, Millard F. Steele and George M. James was not married. One of the other two men was the husband of Ann Carpenter, father of William Carpenter. If anyones research has seen the connecting document that links Ann with John or William please let me know.

I don't have a lot of information on my gramma's family except that her father and grandfather held high positions in Hagerstown political society. Her brother's name was Dwight (but they called him Sonny). I think, buy am not sure, that he was a Jr. making their father, Dwight Steele Sr. My gramma used her maiden name as her middle name...Dorothy Steele Hovey. (Hovey was her married name). I don't know very much more. I did not know her mother's name and she was very quiet about her family as there had been some "scandal" that required she move away from that area. I know that there is a family burial plot in Hagerstown and that may have more clues. I have not checked that angle out yet. I don't know if any of this will help you, but I hope it does and maybe we will be able to help each other. I do know that my gramma often mentioned she was Scott-Irish.
