Hello again, Tracy- Neither Houx nor Kirby show up in my Steele's, but just to be safe, what dates/places do you have for your Samuel and William? I haven't a Samuel in my direct line but do have a couple of William's, the earliest b. 1781 Bethlehem Ct., d. 1858 E. Bloomfield NY; m. Eliza Pitkin. His son Wm. (b. 1825 E. Bloomfield, d. 1897 Porter NY) and great-grandson Wm. (b. 1895 Youngstown NY, d. 1958 Valdosta Ga.) are also in my direct line. Doesn't look as if we have a connection, but thanks for thinking of me- and BTW, that's a great username you've chosen. :) Regards, Dick in Princeton NJ ========================= > Dick, I corresponded with you once before and have found much on my Samuel Steele line and his son William. Would like to know if your Samuel Steele ws married to Rebecca Kirby, and if your William Steele was married to Mary E. Houx. If they were, we could exchange information. > Tracy >

Through furthur research at the archives it seems his name was Robert Joseph. Robert had previously been married to Madeline Christa Dott, they were married May 8, 1921, then to Nance Stevens. I have quite a bit of information on them through the help of others. My 1st Steele was Alexander Steele of Canada, unknown wife, 2 sons- Robert unknown dates and William W abt. 1841. My 1st Stevens was Roger Stevens of Wales abt 1704 married to Hannah Rosewell 1729, 2 sons- Roger, 1728 and Benjamin 1733.
Please check out the following website of my cousin,Ted Steele: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~steeles/ Both Ted and I are direct descendants of John Steele, one of the founding fathers of Hartford, CT. As you go down the tree at Ted's site you will run into Isaac Steele who fought in the Revolutionary War. If you would like to contact Ted, please leave him a message when you visit his site. Ted has a photo copy of Isaac's discharge paper from the war which will give you your direct tie and make you elgible to become a son or a daughter of the American Revolution. Depending on how you tie into the Steele line you may also be elgible to join the Plymoth Society. John Steele's grandson, Samuel Steele, married the granddaughter of William Bradford, the first Govenor of Plymouth. His granddaughter's name was Mercy Bradford. Hopefully this is the same John Steele who was born in Essex, England in December 1591. -----Original Message----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com [mailto:gc-gateway@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of fishtalestrading@hotmail.com Sent: Friday, November 02, 2001 8:40 AM To: STEELE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [STEELE] Re: John Steele from Hartford Conn This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
